I doubt Nike cared much. KD was a stud that's going to sell shoes regardless of where he played, just not as much as Lebron. If anything this season, Kyrie seems to be slowly making himself the Nike #2 after Lebron, so the move to The Bay didn't have much difference for them.

On that topic, Under Armour took one hell of an L in all this. Their guy went from the THE face of the NBA to pretty much second fiddle on his own team and releasing meme worthy shoes.

That'd make teams more careful about who they fork out the cash to and would also stop all these star clusters we keep getting like the Cavs and Golden State who each have at least 3 'max' worthy players. It'd definitely help the competitive balance of the league and also keep FA at least partly interesting, as with the new extension ability I don't see how rival teams will be able to poach any stars from FA anymore

What about the teams like GS (pre-KD) that draft well. Hurts them.

Good point but I think you could easily include a "home grown" exception.

Nike was paying him $300 million, regardless. Kevin Durant is one of the best offensive players ever, so long as they had the rights to his likeness for the shoe, they were happy. Nike had and has minimal influence on Durant beyond his contractual obligations.

Actually as far as I've seen the shoe deals are substantially incentive-based as opposed to guaranteed money.

The GS guys can believe what they like but I find it hard to believe the company paying the nine figure salary didn't heavily weigh into the choice Durant made. It's been reported consistently after his decision that Nike wanted him there. The whisperings of Iggy/Dray aren't particularly alluring without Curry on top of Nike megabucks heavily tilting the scales towards an attractive destination.

I'd hope that I have earned enough credit to speak on this with some degree of authority by now. ;-)

It's all good info on GS, much of which has been solid. Doesn't mean the people in the GS locker room have a monopoly on knowledge.

Either way that made the difference, Nike or Draymond, it doesn't behoove Durant one single bit to say "hey, my shoe guys said to come over here and go to the Finals 5-6 times." Durant has been nothing but savvy so far in his career, of course he is going to make those guys feel like it was all about them.

As far as the buddy-buddy stuff goes, sounds like the honeymoon lasted as long as the marriage for Green.

Aren't these two paragraphs the contradiction?

Only if it's a zero-sum game, which it's not (people can just buy fewer shoes overall). But, as usual, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle; hurting a competitor certainly can't be bad for Nike.

Wyc could offer to swap the ownership rights with Tom Benson to get Davis and he'd probably turn it down. Davis is never leaving NOLA unless he demands it himself.

I think including two many teams bleeds value.
if Jimmy is available I think Boston can deal direct and pay less.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/244552/DeMarcus-Cousins-Intends-To-Sign-$207M-Extension-With-Kings-In-Offseason

DeMarcus Cousins intends to sign a contract extension with the Sacramento Kings worth an estimated $207 million over five years.

Cousins and the Kings have discussed numbers and a deal will be done in the offseason barring a late change in direction by either side.

Under the new CBA, Cousins is in line for the league’s designated player exception, which allows Sacramento to give their franchise cornerstone an additional five-years on top of his current deal, keeping him with the Kings through the 22-23 season.

Cousins can sign for a starting salary up to 35 percent of the salary cap.

Cousins previously signed a four-year max contract in September of 2013 that was set to expire in 2018.

Right on, but it's not "locker room" people. I just think the Nike thing is overstated, and something I never even heard mentioned. I mean, has anyone even come up with a way that they benefitted from him choosing GS over Boston?

To me Whiteside is up there behind Cousins and AD when it comes to centers. Heat will ask for something ridiculous.
Good assessment:

I wrote that Cousins will sign extension with the Kings 10 pages ago. No way he passes on nearly 210 mils.. He has to be crazy to..

Just 4 more days until Danny will have his full complement of trade chips (I'm looking at you Tyler.) Can't wait to see what will happen.

This is another reason why the Brooklyn picks are so valuable, the new CBA makes keeping your own stars so much easier.
