Re: The Tantalizer: Welcome Robert Williams!
Under 5 minutes a game on an 82-game schedule? I think they'd like him to have more. A good 15 minutes a game after midyear, for example, so he has the experience to be a useful club in Brad's playoff bag. Baynes and Theis don't necessarily need that many minutes and ol' man Horford should be tapered some in both minutes and games played to keep him fresh for the playoffs. I could see Williams averaging 15 minutes a game in 60 games, for a total of 900 minutes--if he stays healthy. The only thing that could really gum it up for him would be if Yabs came into SL with a slimmed down body and much improved game. Unfortunately, not too likely.[/quote]
I see him getting 5 min a game the first month and a little more every month after to finish around 12-15 a game by april. With games well in hand I expect him to play garbage min at first but Horford's min will be reduced during the regular season.

Re: The Tantalizer: Welcome Robert Williams!
Remember when Tatum was buried behind Brown, Hayward, Morris, Smart? Even Semi got lots of PT. If Williams’ game translates immediately he brings something nobody else does and Brad will play him when he wants that. I can see RW getting time with Kyrie, Hayward, Tatum and Horford and it being lob city for 5-10 min. I am on record worrying about his maturity but if he buys in to Celtic Pride he can be special for us just doing what he already can do.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

If Robert Williams works hard on his game, he is going to play right away. Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum did that.

What? Rather have Williams than Carter? Will be nice to see how the two players develop; but Carter is the much better shooter, and has the better offensive game, is taller, slightly heavier and possibly stronger. We shall see. Carter is the safer pick of the two. Carter will also get a ton of playing time.

I get What Darth is saying. I love Carter, but if he can’t defend the perimeter he may be a liability like an Al Jefferson was in his prime. Sometimes, a limited big man who defends and rebounds is better than a go to big who can’t.

If Semi could get into starting late into the playoffs this year, there is no reason that Williams, if all goes well, couldn't at least get real minutes by then--given his greater talent and that there is nobody else on the team with his skill set, despite there hopefully not being as many injuries.
And thus I'd think they'd have a plan to try to get him to the point of positively playing some with that shortened rotation as the season goes on.

I agree that Williams can/will get minutes (hoping for at least 12-16/game). But using Semi as an example is silly. If Hayward & Morris were healthy at the beginning of the season, he wouldn't have left Maine. Kyrie, Smart & Theis injuries towards the end also shifted minutes around and opened doors for Semi.

Rob can rebound, protect the rim, and defend multiple positions. He's no doubt going to get a lot of run. Sorry Maine, it will be a devasting blow after losing Nader the legend.
Yabs OTOH, he can't feel too good about where he's at.

This could all work out fine, and indeed probably will ... but I'm a little worried until it does.
Nailed it.
This pick was a home run. You don't get a player with elite tools at 27 without some question marks. I don't see anything big here at all that can't be overcome with natural maturity and structure. Whether he pans out or not, I'm just glad that I won't be haunted by this draft cause we panned over a freak talent for a non difference maker that may contribute right away (Olynyk and Giannis). I think Ainge learned his lesson and is not making that mistake again.

Just kind of a pet peeve of mine when people make generalizations regarding parenting of a kid when they have absolutely no clue about the inner workings of the kid or said parents.
I'll reserve judgement till later.

Re: The Tantalizer: Welcome Robert Williams!
If it doesn't work out for the kid, I don't think it's gonna be for immaturity issues or lack of motor. It's gonna be for an inability to grasp the system. Stevens demands a TON from his big men. They are involved in EVERYTHING we do here. On offense, he is going to have to learn how to read defenders and their positioning. He will have to learn how to set proper picks (something he didn't do a lot of in college) and roll hard. Make the correct pass out of those "horns" sets. He'll need to successfully negotiate those dribble handoffs which at times can be tricky against aggressive defenses.
On defense, he's gonna have to be a talker and a loud one at that. That's what Brad wants out of his big men. They need to see everything and quarterback the defense. Robert seems like a nice, quiet kid. But he's gonna have to be LOUD on the court and he can't be passive out there. Bamba was the only kid in this draft I felt like could actually "quarterback a defense" even though there were other good shotblockers and defenders. Bamba is a talker out there on the defensive end. I don't think this kid is yet but he will have to learn to be or he will not play. I think that's gonna be the most difficult adjustment for him. Learning the speed of the NBA, reading what's happening and then not only trying to be where you're supposed to be but also sometimes being responsible for calling out appropriate switches. That's a lot.

and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Horford needs to give this kid a call right now.
Like, you just got drafted, it's time to start caring about basketball dude.

Yeah thats not good. Yet Tatum is there. Man. Dude it becoming a leader already. He has no business being at a summer league practice, yet here he is.
Amazing.
Williams better shape up or he’s gone. Thats 2 strikes in 2 weeks basically.

Who is he going to get minutes over? This is one of the deepest teams if not the deepest in Celtic history.
Kyrie, Hayward, Tatum, Horford, Brown, Rozier, Morris, Baynes, Smart, and and Theis. That’s 10 deep.
Williams won’t be playing much over Horford, Baynes, and Theis. The way this current roster is set up and if everyone is healthy, Williams will be getting limited minutes during blowouts. He will have to wait his turn. I think some people forget how good Theis was.

Not a good start at all. But we all knew he fell for a reason. Hopefully when he’s around someone like Al more regularly during the season he can learn some professionalism.

Guy is a train wreck. Even Ryan Leaf showed up on first day. Hopefully his talent shines this year so we can pump and dump.
