Highly doubt they'll draw more viewers than the Celtics. Tatum and Walker both sell more jeresys than Zion. Pelicans have drawn fans, and so have Zion, but both you and Espn are discounting the top franchise in the NBA we have here. Pelicans have an enormous amount of ground to make up to be near our level of fans.
There is a reason that ESPN wanted as many Pelicans games as possible when they saw that New Orleans had the number one pick. When LeBron was drafted, he drew more fans than the Spurs or whatever team was great at the time. Same with Zion. People want to see the freakiest athlete in fifteen years do freaky athlete things. No one cares about Gordon Hayward or Bojan Bogdanovic hitting midrange jumpers and being efficient scorers. But maybe you have a better feel for this than whoever is in charge at ESPN. Maybe submit your resume.
And regarding Simmons: if he is out for the Sixers, they are **** done. He's their best player, Embiid can suck my weenis.
Glad you're so high on ESPN. I'm not. They're easily the most out of touch with the NBA of all the networks and have been for years. In 2008, 10 out of their 10 analysts picked the Lakers to win in the Finals, until someone higher up probably said we'll look foolish if the Celtics win and one analsyst suddenly switched picks. They're all about media hype and just how Kobe was the sexier pick in 2008, they immediately think Zion is the best choice now.
If you're theory is correct why is Zion 9th in jersey sales with two Celtics selling more than him? Pretty sure Lebron's been near or at number one in jersey sales since he was a rookie, so your comparison isn't even close. Zion is not a number 1 draw this season like Lebron was as a rookie. While his season debut was going to be a big ratings draw, due to the build up and his delayed start because of injury, they're now banking on his mid season games to pull those numbers again.
Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum may not look better to ESPN producers than Zion, but real fans want to see them. I highly doubt TNT or NBAtv would have swapped these two games.
