I'm all for trading Smart for a better player so long as he fits the timeline of the J's. No 32 year-olds please.

So let's see. For starters this player has to be a candidate for all NBA defensive team, be able to guard 4 positions with impeccable defensive positioning and be in the NBA's top 10 in steals. He has to be willing to dive on the floor for balls and sacrifice his body to take charges and to box out on the glass. He has to be durable too. No load management for this guy.
On offense I need to see a willing passer with an assist-to-turnover ratio of better than 2.5 to 1. He needs to a passable shooter who can also penetrate and dish.

Oh, one last thing. He has to be on a team-friendly contract for under $20M per year.

So bring it on! Let's hear your suggestions.

I disagree. I love Smart but every time he takes 10 to 15 shots a game, at 35% fg, we are wasting possessions.
Combine that with some of his whining at other players and potential for being a locker room thorn, I could see him being moved quite easily.

He's the heart and soul of the last 5 seasons but to say that 'if Smart goes we are rebuilding' is a big stretch for me- and please don't take that as being disrespectful, I just strongly disagree on this one.
I do agree that he's good at finding shots for our stars- I just think we should try and focus on him distributing to the Jays+ Fournier+ Rob W and playing defense and shooting corner threes.

I think what's most likely is a new coach will reign his shooting in and make him focus more on finding satisfaction from playmaking and passing- something he's so good at but gets overlooked because of his awful shot selection and 1v1 decision making on offense.

My hope is that Brown, Tatum and Fournier can take the majority of shots that Kemba took.

Smart and Kemba combined for 26.3 shot attempts last season, with Smart averaging 10.6 shots per game.
We have to get the ball into Tatum+ Brown+ Fournier's hands much more.

I have an outside the box idea. Try to engage Lowry's camp into coming to Boston via S/T. The Raptors would be interested because in this scenario they don't lose Lowry for nothing. Smart/TT/Romeo for Lowry (S/T).

The object for Boston is to try to win now. The team isn't far off when you look at Hawks/Bucks/Nets/Philly/Heat....

You put Lowry together with Tatum/Brown/Horford and whatever else they do this offseason and you're right there. Lowry is a big upgrade in his overall game VS Kemba.

I love it.

I don’t believe Beal is an ideal fit here. Entirely too many chefs in the kitchen between he + the J’s (did we not learn a thing from the Kemba Experience???).

Horford/Tatum/Brown/Fournier/Lowry + Timelord/Nesmith/PP would dominate. There would be not a single hole in this unit (health-permitting).

This would be our absolute best team since ‘08 (crazy as it sounds, maybe even better).
