Perfect acquisition if you don't mind your bigs being poor defenders and mediocre rebounders.

So you're saying he is high on Danny's list..

Have you ever heard anybody describe Bender as tough?

No, no you haven't.

What? Show me any scouting report that claims Bender is soft or that he shies away from contact despite obviously lacking muscle mass. Good luck with the search.

He's 7'1" and barely gets minutes in the Israeli league. Those guys are like 6'7".

Not only is toughness not one of his core traits, but any scouting report is going to have to rely on how he played against a bunch of European 16 year olds.

Skal Labissiere should have gone to Israel instead of Kentucky. He'd still be #1 in a lot of mock drafts.

Show me then other 18 or 19 year olds dominating in European professional leagues. Good with that one also.

Israel isn't a great league, but this is nonsense.
1. Most PF/C in the league are at least as big as your average college players (6'9-6'11).
2. They are grown men, Bender is one of the youngest guys in the league.

So yes, it is telling that all the scouts talk about how tough he is. Skill level may not be high in Israel, but tough strong players much older than him are basically all Bender faces.

Listen, we get that you love Maker based on some youtube clips you saw. That doesn't mean that everyone who has scouted these players extensively is wrong. Tell us why you love Maker all you want, stop jumping into every discussion of every other player with a bunch of nonsense about them and about the professional evaluators just because they ranked that player over Maker (as every single person has).

Because the Celtics don't need any more guards. I hope they draft 8 front court players and I also hope one of those 8 can actually perform at the NBA level. The current Celtics front court isn't anywhere near good enough

I can imagine the teams that drafted Sam Bowie, Darko Milicic, and Greg Oden said similar things.

And so did the teams that drafted Tim Duncan, Blake Griffin and Anthony Davis too. If you're argument is that players bust, that theory applies to guards as well. If your argument is that Buddy Hield is the next Jordan, Melo/Wade or Kevin Durant than I don't think we are going to find common ground here. Hield is more Avery Bradley to me than those guys

And I would say Bender is more Milicic than Porzingis/Duncan/Griffin/Davis. This Bender guy hasn't proven much of anything anywhere, huge bust risk.

Bender is going to be a stud, but not right away. Even so he's a better pick than the likes of Hield, who has already reached his ceiling, Poeltl (who will never be a star) Jaylen Brown (NBA body but not NBA skills) or Jamal Murray (Rodney Stuuckey clone).

Players I like:

1. With the Nets pick

Bender
Simmons
Ingram (although he's overrated)

2. Dallas Pick

Deyonta Davis
Luwawu
Sabonis

3. With the Boston pick

Damian Jones
Diamond Stone
Ante Zizic

Of the players projected to go in the second round I like Malcolm Brogdon and Caris LeVert. I also like Methuen's own Georges Niang, who isn't on anyone's draft list but who was outstanding in the NCAA tournament.

1) Dragan Bender - number one with a bullet, if you can combine a Game of Thrones reference with a Futurama reference you are winning life.

2) Diamond Stone - as if Stone isn't strong enough we need to reinforce that with Diamonds.

3) Thon Maker - could have gone a couple of ways here, but my immature freshman teenage boy came out when I realized that if I add a g to Thon...

4) Buddy Hield - the anachronistic undersized shooting guard from Oklahoma. He shows up to take his girl Peggy Sue to the malt shop and then soc hop on his hover board.

5) Skal Labissiere - 311's personal French chef

6) Timothe Luwawu - I can't wait for Tommy to wrap his tongue around Luwawu.

7) Ivan Rabb - 90's era Jean-Claude Van Damme bad guy.

8) Furkan Korkmanz - when you can get a guy at 8 with a name as easily manipulated as Furkan you know you have a special draft.

9) Ivica Zubac/Ante Zizic - what you thought I was making this up?

10) Prince Ibeh - "Lords and Ladies of the realm it is my pleasure, duty, and honor to present to you PRINCE Ib-eh huh gargle cough gag"

11) Cheick Diallo - Cheick please!

Cat Barber is a top 5 name IMO. I'd probably put him #3 but gonna play this one conservatively.

Not sure if it counts because he's draft eligible and he's staying in college, but Tacko Fall would be my top 4 with first two and Cat Barber.

With all respect, what if Net's pick is 4/5/6 other than 1/2/3? Any player you think worth it (suppose Hield/Brown are not the pick)

Jaylen Brown is probably the best of a bad lot if the Celtics are picking below #3. Maybe I'd draft Kris Dunn and try to package him in a trade with a team that needs a pg.

Let me add that I believe Zizic will be the sleeper of this draft. His numbers in Europe were better than Jokic's, and in fact Zizic's numbers were some of the best ever seen in Europe for a 19 year-old. He comes from a basketball family; his (much) older brother was an outstanding player as well.

Thanks for your wisdom and it's very insightful. I just fear Ainge will skip Bender like he skip Gannis.

I also like Zizic because he may stay another year in Euro because his current contract without a buyout term. It's good for Celtics because we may not have enought roster slot

If the Celtics don't use all of their 8 draft picks on Thon Maker,
Ainge deserves to be fired... :)

If the Celtics don't draft Maker,
he could be a Thon in their side in the coming years... :)

Obviously Ainge would like to consolidate picks. But if he can't, he ought to be drafting two types of players: 1. guys he can stash in Europe for a year or two to mature (e.g. Bender, Zizic). 2. High risk, high reward players. With 8 picks, swing for the fences. One home run is enough when you already have a 48-win team.
