But I won't get too excited, as Kelly Olynyk looked like Dirk 2.0 in Summer League and he hasn't come even a 1/3 towards the level.

KO never looked like Dirk. Dirk had to super high release on his shot. He could get his shot off anytime he wanted to. KO, exact opposite.

I said "in Summer League". :lol:

I think you should go rewatch some rookie KO Summer League clips. He was schoolin' dudes. Step back J's, 3's from the arc, scoop shots, guy was looking like Baby Dirk in Summer League. Heck, even the posters on here were getting giddy with excitement.

It looks like Brown was right to think he could use the Summer League experience.

Meanwhile, I have an odd question -- what does the "Kuma" in your name signify? I know it as the Japanese word for "mulberry", or something like that, and that's about it.

Yeah - I'll confess to getting irrationally excited about KO after that first summer league. Dirk fadeaways, sweet post moves, dribble drives, stroking 3s, put backs.

KO was great in SL, no doubt. But KO couldn't shot a jumper on anyone's grill back then, still can't. Anyone notice how he 4 years, KO never made a 3 when he had a man in his face. Dirk never had that problem.

Exactly. We all convinced ourselves he was the next big thing, because heck, he looked like he was in those few games. But, as we know, killing Summer League doesn't mean squat.

TBF, there were a lot of other superstars that killed it in SL and they turned out to be real superstars in the NBA.

You're trying too hard to connect KO's game to what Dirk can and has always done. It's irrelevant.

All I'm saying is during those four or five games in his rookie Summer League, we on this board thought Kelly had the potential to be the next Dirk, as he played out of his mind for a few of those games. Clearly that didn't happen, clearly I'm in no way comparing their careers or play and clearly he's no Dirk.

Not really sure why you're beating a dead horse.

I'm not the biggest Jaylen fan, but people getting on him for not improving his handles? Come on guys, season ended only about a month ago. It's going to take some time. The real season doesn't start for another 3 and a half months. He needs even more time than that to really improve his handles.

The court vision is something that usually takes longer.

It's a discussion. I get people get really excited over SL and the potential of a player. But they go a little overboard. Brown was getting compared to Kobe and Dominque, last year at this time.

I was rooting for KO big time in his rookie season. But he never improved that low release on his jumper and got stuck being a role player.

Super, every time I see your signature I am reminded that Mark Blount existed. Then I am reminded that, just a few years ago, we used to spend time on this board talking about Mark Blount."Will we be able to re-sign Blount?" was the biggest question of the off-season.

Then I think of the utter hopelessness of the franchise at that time. Grant Long playing serious minutes. Debating whether JR Bremmer could be the next Derek Fisher. Hoping that Brandon Hunter would solve our rebounding problems. Trying to imagine Marcus Banks becoming some kind of useful player. Praying that we weren't completely wasting Paul's career. That's what being a Celtics fan was in the off-season.

Now we are signing star free agents in their prime, drafting basically whoever we feel like, getting ready to make a Finals run while preparing for possibly two more top five picks next year. For the love of God, enjoy this people. Don't take this for granted. Because it wasn't that long ago we were spending our summers wondering if we were going to re-sign Mark Blount.

This is a major overreaction IMO.

Thanks!

I got it wrong, anyway:

Kuwa = mulberry
Kuma = bear

Fultz is a servicable scorer and starter at best, no alpha dog in him *snore*

Guys you need to relax a bit. He dominated game 1 and no one bats an eye, he gets a bad game suddenly y'all coming in full force.

Just remember: As soon as our season ended Jaylen went to Danny to request for SL play because the kid knows he has work to do. Let him work and develop, y'all judging him like he's some 10 year vet.

I remember it. The Olynyk Clynyk nickname was born and shortly died once the real competition showed up.
