Irving was a fraud. Complete lack of self awareness as a leader. Not good enough to make up for it on the court. With that said...Ainge owns some of this. Trading for Irving initially was the right move, holding on to him past the trade deadline this season was not. Being blinding by the unlikely hope that an AD trade would work is no excuse.

Truth. I’m not sure what other good options that Ainge has that would have made much of a difference. There is plenty of blame to go around though for everyone involved.

Ya, he's not good enough for the circus he brings. At least Lebron's drama was supported by a GOAT like prime, but Kyrie's 'just' an all-star, top 20 guy. You cant be as cancerous as you are if youre not a top 5 guy year over year
Kyrie is not even a top 20 player. I trust the analytics and +- data over the years much more than a popularity contest like all-star selections. Kyire can have a top 20 impact in a situation where he is a great fit and playing against a team like the Warriors that just has their guards shoot mostly 3's but not sure if AD/Lebron really is that situation since with an aging Lebron, Lakers may need tier 1 3 +D players more than Kyrie's scoring. AD and Lebron can obviously score. And Kuzma is okay at that as well given the first two players.
Still Lakers is a good enough situation I can see why they would go after Kyrie if they fail to get Leonard/Butler. Lakers can use MLE I believe after next season. And slight chance Kyrie takes a discount to go the Lakers and they just somehow steer some additional endorsement deal his way.

Re: Kyrie Irving Thread, Part 2 -- Which Way is he going?
Kyrie looks terrible coming out of this season but insisting on cramming 4 wings into a space big enough for 3 while sprinkling malcontent Rozier over the top was the doodoo straw that stirred this drink. It was incredibly obvious all year and one of the most basic fixes you're gonna get in this league. Literally pick a guy and dump him, it was clear well before the deadline that this needed to happen. Ainge not only underestimated what he was allowing to brew here but it shows a tremendous amount of arrogance on his part. He always treated his players like they were just pieces on a board game and it finally came full circle and burned the **** out of him. The era of player empowerment just might be the end if Ainge if he can't adapt his philosophy quickly, nobody is going along with this stuff anymore.

I concur, **** him forever. I’ll be rooting against him more than any other player. He deserves to have as little success as possible in this next phase of his career.
He’s selfish, a bad teammate, and most likely just a huge piece of **** as a person in general.

As I have said before, trading for Irving was a mistake unless Ainge was prepared to truly go for it during those 2 years but fortunately for the Celtics, the Nets lottery pick didn't turn into gold. But unfortunately, it still hurts to have lost that pick.... First year, with Irving have to give C's a pass because of injuries. But this 2nd year, showed that Ainge wasn't willing to go for it so the Irving trade was a bad one and mistake by Ainge/Wyc. It wasn't the biggest mistake Ainge has made with the Celtics but has to go into the mistake column. I mention Wyc since maybe Wyc didn't want to spend the money when push came to shove but he failed to communicate that to Ainge at time of Kyrie trade. Trading for Irving to use him to lure another star 2 years later I think is not a wise gamble at all when you look at risk/reward. Kyrie at his current age/health just isn't worthy of a 4-5 year max offer. To have a shot at an aging KD not worth it or to have a shot at AD via a trade not worth it either since in an AD trade have to give up lots of assets.
This all being said....I don't think Irving is a fraud. That is a bit harsh. However, he was significantly overrated in comparison to players like Mike Conley and Kyle Lowry by some otherwise knowledgeable posters. Too many fans just look at offense. And didn't realize Irving would have been exposed playing in the western conference much more than the eastern conference. In the east, the rest of the EC was trash that had no shot vs the Lebron led Cavs. The Cavs were only facing the Warriors with a backcourt/team that mostly wants to shoot 3's so Kyrie's defense wasn't as big of a liability against them then it would be against let's say a team like Houston or even Portland
Now if Kyrie played the Celtics/Ainge knowing he would leave all along after this season but not wanting to be traded at deadline, I gotta hand it to him for outmaneuvering Ainge. Kyrie would have ended up being much smarter than Ainge in this instance.... Literally leaving him at the alter! I do think Irving should have been traded at deadline if he could have fetched something good that was worthy of the bad PR but I am not sure if a Kyrie half year rental could have even fetched 15th pick in the draft.

I agree with everything except Tatum. He was on a like an hour and half podcast with Tatum and they talked a lot about playing together. That would be odd to randomly do if you ask me. Regardless Kyrie was a kook and not a leader which frankly I could over look but he was a dumpster in the playoffs.

Kyrie Irving Rumors: Nets May Stop Pursuing PG Without Kevin Durant Commitment

NBA free agency is centered around a player's power to decide his own future, but it's still a two-way street.
Reports are piling on top of each other saying that Kyrie Irving is set on signing with the Brooklyn Nets as an unrestricted free agent this summer. However, the New York Post's Brian Lewis added a plot twist Wednesday night:
"The Post has confirmed Brooklyn might have qualms about signing the enigmatic Irving if he isn’t bringing the injured [Kevin] Durant with him.
Other teams had already backed off of pursuing Irving with similar concerns over the way things went awry in Boston. If the Nets do the same, it would mean keeping [D'Angelo] Russell, who is a younger and cheaper option as a restricted free agent."-
This is Karma?

It must make you feel loved to know teams only want you if you bring Anthony Davis (Boston) or Kevin Durant (Nets/Knicks) along with you.

Re: Kyrie Irving Thread, Part 2 -- Which Way is he going?
Would be funny. How funny would it really be if Nets backout and Kyrie says I'll take you money. DA calls back to NO and says you know what we can take AD for Tatum, Brown, Smart, Memphis, and 14 this year. Pick swap opp in 2021 for our pick. Horf jumps back in. MLE ends up being Bev. Lebrons plan fails, Twitter explodes, all these media idiots in LA cry foul. It would be delicious. But in all honesty I dont want that clown no matter what

I will go on record, I don't want Kyrie back at anything more than 3/59 at this point. If Celtics offered Horford 3/60, offer Irving less.

Perhaps AD didn't have anything against Boston. It sounds possible that maybe he realized Kyrie was a weird dude a long time ago.

Re: Kyrie Irving Thread, Part 2 -- Which Way is he going?
The Nets will sign him. They'll have reservations but they'll do it anyway because it's Kyrie Irving and the Nets don't get interest from stars too often. But it's going to blow up in their face if they can't get Durant too.
I'm glad to see that Kyrie is taking heat for all his BS. I can't wait to hear what he has to say about all of it. Probably just make a bunch of crap up to make the Celtics and Boston in general sound awful, and the media will eat it up.

Re: Kyrie Irving Thread, Part 2 -- Which Way is he going?
The fan polls I've seen are 50/50 on whether to sign Kyrie or not. And he's essentially coming to them for free. Unlike when we got him where we had to give up something. People are finally realizing how overrated his impact is on winning. That he may not be worth all the trouble. Unless a superior max guy joins him in Brooklyn, I don't think he'll sniff a title in his upcoming contract.
Lakers fans are obviously more enthusiastic of luring him since they already have Lebron and AD there.

I’m rooting for him to go to Brooklyn so they sign him & a guy like Tobias Harris to max deals so they can be a 45 win team and get bounced out in the first round every year.
That’s exactly what this piece of **** deserves.

Oh, please. I don't want him back. Might have to stop being a Celtics fan for the next five years.
Let him go out west to the Lost Divaville Lakers. Or let the Knicks get stuck with him.
