Two days to go 'til we can trade Thornton (still has no jersey number I believe) in a package. I wonder for which player would he be traded if at all. If he stays, at least we have a not-so-efficient guard on the lineup who can score 60 points any given night.

I spent a while looking around on the Trade Machine for a half decent deal that makes sense for both sides. Nothing really grabbed me. He might get moved this week but whatever it actually is will be a surprise for me.

Just looking at the top-50 paid players this season (http://espn.go.com/nba/salaries/_/seasontype/4 - not sure if this is updated), there aren't many likely candidates. Pekovic, Sanders, Hibbert, Smith could be possibilities in the right deal? I'd be surprised too and not exactly thrilled (for various reasons) if any of these "big" names are traded for Thornton + unnamed player(s)/picks (unless it's something like Thornton + Bass for Hibbert rental hehe).

Amare and JR Smith for Wallace, Thorton, Bass, Anthony and the sixers 1st/2 2nds pick

We reduce next years salary by swapping wallace and smith, and gain more value for trades with smith (can still play) and amare's hure expiring if needed. Knicks get a couple early 2nds, and 3 players who can actually play and help them now.

Rondo, Bass, and Anthony to OKC for Ibaka and Perkins. Works in trade checker...

Celts shed players, while picking up Ibaka, a great young asset that is a defensive stopper, retain some cap room use, and get back an old friend at the end of his career.

OKC gets the distributer they desperately need to push Westbrook off the ball in Rondo, while getting back a savvy defender with a mid-game in Bass, and a big body with playoff experience in Anthony.

I actually don't see any way they would do that trade.

Ibaka is their league wide underrated player.

Without him, they lose way more games than they win. His defense is top notch. I dont think they would want to lose him for Rondo considering they have no need for him with Westbrook, and they traded Harden for a bag of donuts just to be able to pay the guy.

Sean Deveney floated the idea of a Westbrook/Rondo backcourt on a Celticsblog interview. I thought it was an interesting idea, so that's where I was coming from. If OKC asked for Rondo, that's what I'd expect Ainge to ask for. Ibaka. Not Jeremy Lamb, Jackson, Adams, ect...

Smart and Ibaka would be killer to build around. (Oh, and Bradley too!) Haha, we can dream a little.

Oh I agree with you there. The defense on that team would be ridiculous.

Since we're dreaming an all-NBA defensive Celtics team, let's trade Wallace, Faverani and Thornton for Marc Gasol and Tony Allen. Smart-Bradley-Allen-Ibaka-Gasol starting five. We'd have the lowest scoring ball games ever though.

Wha? Why would we trade gold like Faverani, when you can just sign Gasol next summer... Come on now.

We already threw away our chance at a Rondo-Bradley-TA-KG-Perk lineup. I would have paid good money to see them beat other teams 61-56.

I don't think KG could score 30 a night? probably going to have to hold teams under 50 to win many games

 touché.

Would have liked to see them try, though. Set offensive basketball back... uh, to before the sport was invented, I guess.

The lack of any trade is troubling. Gotta believe it has something to do with FIBA World Cup championship. Maybe there is a player involved in one of those games.

Our roster makes absolutely no sense.

Garnett for Bass/Anthony would save Brooklyn about $6M. Wonder when KG is going to make the call on playing or not.

I like this trade idea. Like a LOT. Even if Garnett plays zero minutes for the Celtics and just be around our young guys, it would be more beneficial than having Anthony in the locker room/bench or Bass taking minutes away from Sully/Olynyk.

Wow. I really like that one too. Very simple but effective.

Brooklyn presumably would rather have someone who could actually still, you know, play in Bass, while saving a bit of money in the process, and the C's would get a fantastic mentor back for our young PFs, who would certainly understand that he won't be commanding big minutes at this point.

Edit: Though I fear that Prokhorov's acquisition strategy is based entirely on name recognition, so he probably vetoes it.

Return to Boston Celtics
