Sixers as the third team. Maybe Colangelo trades for Gay again!

I'm hoping the hawks get out of the gate slowly so that we can try to pry millsap from them. He's not the true superstar that most of us want, but he wouldn't require bklyn picks and we already know what he and horford can do together. Our defense and versatility would be so nasty

I think that Korver is an underrated FA get next summer. A short term fix, but a nice one of the sort that good teams get.

AUGUST 4, 2016
Adrian Lawhorn
The Boston Celtics have been mentioned all summer in NBA trade rumors and with good reason. The Celtics’ general manager, Danny Ainge, isn’t called “Trader Dan” for nothing. It’s common knowledge that he’s been working the phones for weeks trying to make the moves to put his team in the Eastern Conference Championship conversation.

According to Morning News USA, the Celtics are currently inquiring about Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap. The Hawks are in a transition period after Al Horford and Jeff Teague moved on to other teams during the offseason. Atlanta seems willing to begin a rebuilding phase with younger players, and Paul Millsap would be a tremendous trade asset to help execute that plan. NBA pundit David Ramil adds that there are other reasons the Atlanta Hawks are shopping Millsap.

“Millsap’s current contract has two years left but includes a player option at the end of the upcoming season,” Ramil explained. “Millsap, potentially feeling burned by a team actively trying to trade him, could test free agency and could abandon Atlanta, leaving them scrambling to find a suitable running mate alongside Dwight Howard. But, should Millsap choose to remain with Atlanta, things could become even stickier.”

Danny Ainge, of course, has more irons in the fire and is also putting out feelers for a possible trade involving Denver’s Kenneth Faried, as reported by Sportsrageous. The Denver Nuggets are known to have been trying to deal Faried all summer in an attempt to remake their current roster. Faried would be ideally suited to join a contending team, rather than be a primary option for a non-playoff team. The Nuggets are hoping to acquire some assets they can build a future with by trading Kenneth Faried.

The Boston Celtics have already made a splash in free agency by signing former Hawks center Al Horford to a four-year, $113 million max contract. The Celtics are doing all they can to add a power forward to compliment Horford, including rumored discussions with the Los Angeles Clippers regarding Blake Griffin. The potential Griffin deal appears to be going nowhere, so Boston is now setting their sights on players like Millsap and Faried who are very good performers, but would also come much cheaper than Blake Griffin would have.

Paul Millsap came to the NBA with little fanfare as a second-round pick (47th overall) in the 2006 NBA Draft. He played in Utah for seven years, working his way up from a solid bench player to a dependable starter. In 2013, Millsap cashed in on his efforts by signing a lucrative free agent contract with Atlanta, and his career has taken off even further since joining the Hawks. Millsap has been an NBA All-Star for the past three seasons and is coming off perhaps his best season as a pro, averaging 17.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in 2015-16.

Kenneth Faried is one of the most tenacious players in the NBA, and he has made a career out of all-out hustle and aggression. He isn’t a skilled offensive player, but he scores well off of loose balls and offensive rebounds. Faried posted per-game averages of 12.5 points and 8.7 rebounds last year, which are nearly identical to his career averages in those categories. Faried is consistent in both his effort and production and would be an outstanding addition to a playoff team looking to get over the hump.

In the NBA, trade rumors are often the result of teams like the Boston Celtics working hard behind the scenes to improve their rosters. Based on history, if anyone can pull off a deal for a quality power forward, it’s Danny Ainge.

Such a big fan of Millsap... Would love to get him, would be interesting to see what the price would actually be factoring in the contract situation. Obviously Al would be able to give a pretty good insight as to their relationship and if he thought they could get him to stick around long term. Exactly the kind of hard working, versatile, defensive guy that could lift this team to another level

If not, Faried at the right price could definitely be a handy pick-up.. real fear that depending on the match-up in the playoffs our rebounding could become a big issue. His energy and work on the boards would give the front court a dynamic that its really missing at the moment

Dunno how legit either of the rumors are.. neither would be surprising though

Faried's name has come up a couple of times in unreliable rumors.. I don't get it. Do we covet him because another team does? He's a good rebounder, and a great energy/hustle guy. Limited.

Found this on BSNDenver.com:

But Faried isn’t simply a player whose time has passed him by. The 26-year-old is still a menace when rolling to the rim who has more gravity barreling down the paint than any other Nuggets big man. He was top-15 in the league at 1.13 points per possession as the role man out of players with more than 100 pick-and-roll possessions last season. He also grabbed the highest percentage of rebounds (19 percent) when he was on the court compared to all other Nuggets players last year, a mark that was top-15 in the league as well.

Didn't realize he was so effective in the pick & roll. Would explain our interest.

Milwaukee's so screwed, probably back in the lottery. Dude's their only shooter.

I could see them going for a bigger player than Hunter. Rudy Gay? Tyreke Evans? Avery Bradley? Something with Jabari and Gordon Hayward would be risky but could fix a lot of their issues. Gallo, Reddick, Terence Ross? A problem is they don't have much attractive salary to trade.

Homecoming? Probably not, but he'd be just what this team needs

I don't mean to kick Bucks fans while they're down but, if they strike out everywhere else... how about a 2nd for Green?

Yeah, it would hurt our depth, but I think it would amuse me to extract yet another pick out of thin air. And then we don't have to waive Young (whatever that's worth).

Plus, we have some incentive to help make sure they don't decide to pull the plug. We don't want any more teams jostling with Brooklyn in the race to the bottom.

Honestly, I'm more interested to see how Green's shooting can help the team than I would be in a 2nd round pick. I'm also absolutely looking forward to when the C's finally waive Young. What a waste.

Your point about Milwaukee bottoming out is a good one, though.

I do actually agree with you there. A 2nd for Green is not a coherent move right now for where we are. It occurred to me more as an amusement - to basically conjure another pick out of thin air (to go from no Green and no pick to no Green and a pick).

But yeah. Might want to try to find a way to stick our nose in there and help them in a three teamer. Leech some value for facilitating, and some more for buoying them over Brooklyn.

Honestly if this happened I wouldn't even care that they couldn't help us anymore, just to have them on the team and for that one huge ovation when they both came into the game. It would be worth it. Cut James Young and trade Hunter/2nd rounder for Pierce to make some room for them both.

Gotta be retiring right? Shame to see KG go out. They don't make em like they used to.
