Well, this pick isn't looking so good. Kid has talent, but without a good head on his shoulders he's probably a bust.

We're all hoping Al takes him under his wing, but the way things have started, he's going to have to move in with Al.

Who is he going to get minutes over? This is one of the deepest teams if not the deepest in Celtic history.

Kyrie, Hayward, Tatum, Horford, Brown, Rozier, Morris, Baynes, Smart, and and Theis. That’s 10 deep.

Williams won’t be playing much over Horford, Baynes, and Theis. The way this current roster is set up and if everyone is healthy, Williams will be getting limited minutes during blowouts. He will have to wait his turn. I think some people forget how good Theis was.

Not forgetting anything.

82 games plus is a long season, and like CBS said, Williams possesses traits that are unique to this team.

They will work him in and it won't be strict mop up. The only way he doesn't is if he doesn't put in the work.

I think he will be getting about 5-10 minutes a game and some DNP’s. IMO, he will not be a rotation player this year. The only ways he gets more minutes than that is if he beats out Theis and Baynes. I don’t see that happening this year.

He doesn't have to "beat out" anybody for PT. Don't get why you see it this way. He can be worked in the mix. He's already the best rebounder and rim protector not to mention will get plenty of cheap points on lobs and putbacks.

Again this has nothing to do with the current roster. If he continues to F up then it's all going to be moot.

We'd save roughly 550 k this year by giving him 80% of his rookie scale, got to earn your keep. And that would be 1.2 million in losses over his first 2 guaranteed years, 600k for each strike.

I just think he's going to need a lot of hand-holding and chaperoning his first year or two in the NBA. I think that Horford, Baynes, and the coaching staff can help him out a lot with that.
Kid won't last long pulling sh&t like this. He better not come in and start messing with the culture here.

Not to mention Omari Spellman was taking only a few spots after and I really like Spellman

And we wanted Spellman, but Wiliams falling was too juicy to resist.

Why did Williams drop to #27?

What if we don’t sign him? Can we trade his rights?

We retain his rights until the draft after what would have been his 4th year of college, or for a year after any contract he signs with a non-NBA team.

In other words, if he wants to play in the NBA in the next couple of years, he has no choice but to accept what we offer. His only other options are sitting out two years, or playing overseas.

49. What if the team and their drafted player can't agree to a contract? What options does the player have? How long does the team keep his draft rights?

The player's options are limited. What happens depends on a number of factors:

- If the player is already under contract to, or signs a contract with a non-NBA team, the drafting team retains the player's draft rights for one year after the player's obligation to the non-NBA team ends. Essentially, the clock stops as long as the player plays pro ball outside the NBA. Players are not included in team salary during the regular season while the player is under contract with a non-NBA team.
- If the player goes on to play college ball after he was drafted, then the team retains the player's draft rights until one year following the draft the player would have entered had he not declared early. For example, if a team drafts a college sophomore in 2017 and he returns to college and plays intercollegiate basketball, then they retain his draft rights until the 2020 draft. Note that the NCAA rules state that players lose their NCAA eligibility if they are drafted, so the player currently cannot return or go on to play college ball. This rule exists in the CBA in the event the NCAA rules ever change.
- If the player was eligible to play in college before he was drafted but does not go on to play college basketball, then the team retains the player's draft rights until the draft the player would have entered had he not declared early. For example, if a team drafts a college sophomore in 2017 and he does not return to college and play intercollegiate basketball, they retain his draft rights until the 2019 draft.
- For all other players, the team retains the player's draft rights until the date of the next draft.

In terms of trades, he counts as $0 for salary matching until officially signed. So, I believe we can include his rights in any trade the same way we would any other draft pick.

89. How are draft picks handled in trades? What is the Ted Stepien rule?

Draft picks (both first and second round) count $0 for salary matching purposes. This is true both before and after the draft, until the player signs a contract.
...
Once the draft pick signs a contract, his actual salary becomes his trade value.

Note that even though a draft pick's trade value (for salary matching purposes) is $0, a first round pick is included in team salary at 120% of his scale amount once he is selected in the draft, until he signs a contract with the team holding his draft rights or with a non-NBA team or agrees in writing not to sign an NBA contract that season. If an unsigned first round draft pick is traded, then 120% of his scale amount is included in the acquiring team's team salary as soon as the trade is completed. An unsigned second round pick does not count toward team salary.

I compared his worst case as Robert Upshaw. But now he may be Andray Blatche 2.0

Reportedly due to medical concerns.

Everyone needs to relax once he gets here our staff will show him the way. If anyone watched the interview he looked like a scared little boy. I feel like he wants to work hard he just needs the tools to do it.

Eh, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. He’s still a kid.

I'm think that this Kid has had maturity issues, for awhile now.
He also was suspended for the first 2 college games last season.

My point is this is a championship caliber team and we are loaded with talent and depth without Williams. This team was one good game away from going to the Finals and that was without Irving, Hayward, and Theis.

Our top 8 are Irving, Hayward, Tatum, Horford, Brown, Morris, Rozier, and Smart. Established rotation guys are Baynes and Theis. Anyone else like Semi, Yabs, Williams etc will have to fight for scraps. Minutes will be hard to come by for guys like the last 3 I mentioned if we don’t have freak injuries like last season.

Million dollar body and a ten cent head. My worst fears. Get it together Robert, can’t ask for a better situation than right here in Boston

Does anyone else get reminded of Anthony Bennett, over these missing-in-action scenarios?

In contrast, Tatum isn't even on the SL team, but he made it there to practice with them:

Makes me even happier we didn’t trade up to get, but I think we laugh about this in 6months.

With all due respect. -- We could do other things with that $1.6M.
We're teetering on the edge of the Luxury Tax, and instead of a Center, we got Sleepy, from the Seven Dwarfs.

But now they can offer him a contract at 80% of the rookie scale. Pretty brilliant by Ainge and crew.
