Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
He had that one nice aggressive play where he had no choice but to go to the hoop. But otherwise if he has time to think about it he’ll avoid contact at all costs. You can’t blame him . He’s probably a few months away physically. The harder part is the mental part and who knows how long that will take ?

What a hot take this is. Yikes. Glad Danny isnt so short sighted. The problem isnt Hayward its everyone and their selfish lack of effortJR Hawks wrote:Hayward doesn't appear to be mentally strong enough to overcome this injury. We should've seen that coming when we saw all the interviews with him whining about the setback, loss of confidence, etc.
At this point, I'd be thrilled to get his salary off the books.

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
I just know it must be really hard for him to mentally and physically come back from the injury. But he is also playing on a new team and getting slowly used to his role. This makes it tougher.
After that huge game, he hasn’t bad any progress. But fans have to be patient. A month ago I said he was about 40-50% back to the player he was, some people said he was like 70-80%.
It’s going to take time with him and I feel he will be a better player around the ASG. If he can get back to about being 70-75% of the player he was by the end of this season, I would love that. Then he can progress from there the following season.

As a Jazz fan I understand the frustrations Celtics fans are going through. We were patient with Hayward for 6 years before he started being the player we knew he could be. But I do have faith he will eventually will be back to his old self at some point.

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
Hayward seems a broken man right now, which is pretty weird considering his beautiful family and massive early-lifetime earnings, while being able to play a sport as his career. But being a perfectionist, along with his natural athleticism, is undoubtedly what made him a good tennis player and gamer, as well as an NBA AS. At this point I don't expect him to be fully back until next season. His game to game improvements really seem to have plateaued for now.

Another tough outing for Hayward. Let’s hope the new year brings more success for him

The more I watch Hayward the more excited I get if he gets back his confidence. Very high IQ. He just seems to make the right plays most of the time. He was never an elite athlete so he gets his confidence back he can be a huge boost.

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
My aunt had asked my mom who I was into most on the Celtics. So she told her Kyrie Irving. And so I opened my gift from my aunt today and got this:
https://www.fansedge.com/Womens_Fanatics_Branded_Gordon_Hayward_Black_Boston_Celtics_Team_Idol_Name_And_Number_Long_Sleeve_V-Neck_T-Shirt/t-14921664+o-2403+d-58001943+f-3820806+z-9-900529797?utm_medium=cse&_s=csefe12-pla-id&sku=9945593&targetid=pla-72891432029&gclid=CjwKCAiAx4fhBRB6EiwA3cV4KsCz9gCaA0nkduJl0MTfj5MqJCQYsqU8mxksJMfMVB7ClmYcqaLMUhoC8BkQAvD_BwE
I can dig it. To prove how unselfish I am with the Celtics I am going to spread the wealth and start wearing Gordon now too.
I also take my aunt mistaking Kyrie for Gordon as a sign that Gordon is going to explode at some point this season.

I think that's the only reasonable explanation.

I love GH. Saw him play at Butler and some with the Jazz. Hayward was a 23,5 and 5 guy and a top 25 player in the league. He was a solid athlete.
This current GH is not half the player he was and he isn’t making much progress from the start of the season. It’s going to take him more time. Right now, this GH would not be a top 25 player in the G-League. He is a defensive and offensive liability right now.
It’s good to have him out there when we have a big led on most nights vs bad teams. That’s about it. There is no sugar coating it. I have confidence he will be close to the player he was towards the end of the season. By close, I mean 70-75% of what he was by the end of this season. Right now, he is nothing to what he was.

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
boggles my mind how a brilliant-pure shooter has gone dark. pg13's numbers on his return from injury he put-up career points/minutes and appeared in all star form. gordo seems so lost i wish there was an easy answer that he could flip a switch to get back to 80% of his former self. 2 more years @ 30M's gonna be hard watching.

We'll move him if it comes to that. Using a pick or something. Can't have him moping on the bench doing nothing..

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
He came off a gruesome injury and didn't play basketball for a year.
Remember how bad Kyrie looked the first couple weeks? We were all concerned. But he picked it up just fine after coming off an injury himself. Same situation, just a longer road to rehab with Gordon. He'll figure it out.

His net rating is currently +0.0, meaning he is not hurting the team. It also shows that in spite of how rusty he is and how poorly he is shooting the ball, he is still so damn good in other aspects of the game.
People are going WAY too overboard with the Hayward criticism.
Gonna be funny when he wins us a playoff series this year and all of you jump back on the bandwagon.

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
I don't know that he looks any better now than he did in October and I'm actually getting concerned now. I don't know enough medically to grasp whether his chances of recovery are closer to Livingston's chances or PG's so I'm obviously talking out of my ass on that front.
His length and bball iq have been a help, but to win finals we'd need a higher level unless Tatum makes a top 15 leap soon.

He's not hurting the team yet because we haven't experienced the real costs of his contract YET. Like not being able to sign guys like Mook or Theis because his number is too big. Or not being able to bring really good FA's because he makes too much money.
He's basically a mediocre bench player at the moment. That can't continue at his salary. He has a grace period due to the injury, but that won't last forever with the fans or management..

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
I think people comparing Hayward's situation to Paul George's situation are failing to take into consideration the following factors:
1) age - PG13 was much younger when he got injured. You recover much faster when you're younger.
2) athleticism - George was so much more athletic than Hayward ever was. George lost some of that, but he is still long and athletic. Hayward was sneaky athletic, but let's not beat around the bush here - he looks slow. It's going to take some time for him to adjust to the timing required. He's got a smaller margin of error to work with now. Might want to watch some old videos of Paul Pierce to learn how to become efficient with his movements.
3) team context - Paul George came back to a team where the second and third best players were Monta Ellis and George Hill. He got the opportunity to chuck up 18 FGA/game. He got more reps. You get more reps, you get the timing back quicker.
Hayward, on this team, even if he was never injured, was never going to shoot 18 shots per game. Hell, he never even got to shoot that often while in Utah, with his career high coming at around 16 FGA/game. Hayward hasn't gotten the same of opportunities as George did, so again, it's going to take him more time to get his timing right.
I doubt that Hayward is making it into other team's pregame scouting reports, and that is going to work to our advantage come playoff time.

Re: Gordon Hayward Thread
I think Hayward should be running point on the second team. This would put the ball in his hands more, with more chances to score.
