Oh man, absolutely. I should have been more clear. I meant the brains on our team compared to last year. Hayward in a consistent playmaking role and shot at Kyrie with Kemba replacing him.

I was talking 2010 after KG knee injury. Even though PP/KG/RA we’re past peak and they finished season 27-27 over final 54 games, they had 7 very talented players and made it to game 7 of finals which they should have won.....without a top 15 player.

I think you're selling Rondo a bit short. He may have been just as good a player already then as he was the next two seasons, when he finished top 10 in MVP voting. And that's even before we consider the frequent "playoff Rondo" bump. Meanwhile, Pierce's playoff stats rivaled those of the year he was all-NBA 3rd team, 7th in MVP voting, and Finals MVP. Consistency is a problem for most basketball players, these guys not excepted, as in Ray's thigh injury, Pierce's difficulties being elite at both ends of the floor at once, or Rondo's play when he wasn't in the postseason, wasn't on national TV, and wasn't wearing a headband. But they still peaked quite nicely.

How can the Celtics pry JJ Reddick out of New Orleans? Would be perfect for this team. I'd make a play for him then sign Iggy when he's bought out. But more than likely both end up with the Lakers if LeBron wants it to happen.

When healthy team has more than enough wings.

If our five top guys are healthy, I don't think Redick will get minutes over any of them in the playoffs. I'm not even sure he'd play over Wanamaker the way Brad is playing right now. Can't have defensive weak links in the postseason. Plus he's making almost $13.5M. Salary-matching would not make losing at least 3 guys worth it.

I like the Bertans idea. Salary easier to match. We'd have Bird rights in the offseason. A stretch big off the bench is more of a need. I wouldn't mind Iggy on the team either regardless of how many wings we already have. You will need his type against the Lebrons/Kawhis/Giannises in the playoffs.

Bertans would be nice but with really poor FA pool next off-season some team will throw a lot of money at him.

So, I would not want to give up much for a rental…

Bertans is good. Plus its addition by subtraction. He's essentially the Dennis Schroder of forwards. Always looks like a max player against Boston. So if the Celtics can acquire him so Milwaukee or Philly doesn't thats a plus.

instead of Bertrans I would try for Bryant or Wagner. Washington likes them both, but its apparent it they will sell if it means another pick and or young player. I would be very happy with either, as I can see either of them being a very good addition, long term, as a starting center with this core.

Bryant is more athletic and has better tools to be a defensive stopper, but Wagner has better range and would be very deadly in a pick and role game with Kemba.

Maybe Romeo and Kanter for Wagner and Brown Jr?
Or Romeo and Kanter and Bucks pick for Bryant and Brown Jr?

Kemba/Wannamaker/Edwards
Smart/Brown JR/Green
Brown/Hayward/Semi
Tatum/Theis/GWilliams
Bryant or Wagner/RWilliams/Poirier

Smart and Hayward are interchangeable.

I would also be interested in Chris Boucher out of Toronto and Bruno Fernando from Atlanta too.

The Celtics should look into the future for some more help in the middle at number 5 and some at 4 positions. If the opportunity presents itself a sign and trade free agency could be an option. Wendell Carter for Grant Williams, Poirier, Robert Williams and Carson Edwards/ draft pick or any other combination of players that would not effect the nucleus of this team. Danny Ainge if you are available to read this please give it some thought. Wendell Carter plays the type of basketball the Celtics represent and he is a player Brad Stevens could use in his system. He is a very manageable player.

This isn't true at all, the only reliable perimeter player on the bench is Smart, you aren't going anywhere with a bench like that unless it's a super team. You need about 8-9 decent players in playoffs to compete and right now is:

Kemba, Smart
Brown, Smart
Tatum, X
Hayward, X
Theis, Kanter, RW

Hayward is a wing.

Wannamaker has been very solid this year, semi is taking strides and there is still langford and edwards. While the later 2 may not be ready now they are important moving forward.

For what?

Not sure salary-wise. I think he makes $7 mil?

Attention:
Would a couple of our trade ‘wizards’ (pun intended) propose a couple of salary-matching trades for Bertans?

He only makes 7.25 million, so Enes' contract is enough to match salaries. Not sure what the Wizards plan is for his future. They would probably want to keep this kid, so he would cost more than what Ainge would be willing to pay as a rental, IMO.

Hmmm.
EK is clearly our best rebounding big & best offensive big in the post.

I just spend 30 minutes with the trade machine (yes, I'm bored...).

Celtics in : Dāvis Bertāns, Derrick Rose
Celtics out : Daniel Theis, Carsen Edwards, Romeo Langford, 2020 2rd rd pick

Pistons in : Ian Mahinmi, Daniel Theis, Ish Smith, Carsen Edwards, Wizards 2nd rd pick
Pistons out : Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin

Wizards in : Blake Griffin, Romeo Langford, C's 2020 2nd rd pick
Wizards out : Dāvis Bertāns, Ian Mahinmi, Ish Smith, 2020 2nd rd pick

I am pretty sure that Detroit want to get rid of Drummond and Griffin. They are not better since Griffin is back from his injury. I doubt that Drummond will be a Piston by the deadline and they will tanking sooner or later. Mahinmi is $15 million expiring, Theis is a decent big, Smith a great backup and Edwards will improve.

Wizards are getting a promising rookie and a third Star to go along with Beal and Wall next season.
A lineup of Bryant/Griffin/Hachimura/Beal/Wall is not bad at all. The only problem : Beal+Wall+Griffin = $105 million :dontknow:

Celtics get a perfect fit with Bertāns, a mobile big who can make threes. Rose is having a very nice season so far, and he brings energy and scoring off the bench.

Kanter / Timelord / Poirier
Tatum / Bertāns / G.Williams
Hayward / Semi
Brown / Rose / Green
Kemba / Smart / Wanamaker

Why are people trading Theis?

He’s been very solid in Brads system and I fail to see an obvious upgrade who’s obtainable for Boston.

Return to Boston Celtics
