One win away from enshrining this guy to the HOF.

(Add 1,000 career 3-pointers made then it's just him & Dirk.)

He's already there. He never needed to win a title because of the standards of the HOF. Jrue on the other hand does need a title and probably 1 or 2 more years of high performance.

Yeah, the two collegiate titles push Al's case further than Jrue's. Plus a more comprehensive playoff resume. I think he's missed only two postseasons (one when he was injured and one when Philly traded him to OKC midseason) his entire career. He's starting in the Finals in his 17th season. That's rare air.

Al is different in the sense as well of who will people remember him as? Hawk or Celtic? I think if this goes the way it has gone 156 times before, people will remember him as a Celtic. But he probably cemented his case when they made the finals vs GSW. Brad Stevens more or less saved him from being a borderline case and gave him a strong final act.

Most emotional moment of this championship run was the standing ovation for Al when Mazzulla took him out of the game with two minutes remaining.

Congrats on the title, nobody is more deserving.

Very happy for Al Horford. One can easily tell how much all of the other players like him.

Al is one of the most likeable players ever in the NBA. Probably even the Mavs are happy for him. Congrats Al!
(and maybe I'll finally forgive you for your ugly fling with those Sixers hoes ;)

I know you are joking but I never blamed him for leaving or even the Celtics for letting him go given Al's age and how much Philly was willing to pay. What I thought was absolutely nuts was the Celtics bringing in Kemba Walker at a high salary and 76ers paying so much for a player that probably wasn't going to fit great next to Embiid. In the playoffs, size and strength usually matters and not many short players on massive contracts have led their teams to championships since the year 2000.

Obviously, Horford isn't the player he was 5 years ago but to his credit, he will be a player sorely missed if he retires after this season.

Please come back next season. I know you've got one more year in the tank.

Horford, Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (four times), Tim Duncan and Mavericks coach Jason Kidd were the only players 38 or older to have started in the NBA Finals. Horford joined Kidd, who played for the 2011 NBA champion Mavericks, as the only two to win their first NBA titles at 38 years old. Horford is also three years older than Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.

“I love playing. I enjoy being in a team setting and just being a part of an NBA team, an NBA locker room,” Horford said. “I really just find joy in this. Just the routine, the process of it. My body feels good. Obviously [there are] bumps and bruises throughout the season, but for me the biggest thing is just trying to stay in a good place physically so I can be able to play.

“What puts me over the top even more than the physical is my faith. The spiritual part and the mental part are carrying me. There is so much that comes with all this. And people can lift weights and eat right and do whatever. But for me, my Christian faith, that’s the biggest distinction and difference for my longevity. God has spoken to my heart.”

This article also says Al is coming back.

So now we have this article, the Marc Spears article, and the interview where Wyc confirms Al is coming back.

Only two players, aged 38+, in NBA history have recorded 7+ ppg, 6+ rpg, and 1+ spg in a Finals series -- Kareem and Horford. Al had a TS% of 67.6% as a starter in 5 games.

From the Andscape article linked above:

Horford has one year and $9.5 million remaining on his contract with the Celtics. The 6-foot-9, 240-pounder averaged 8.6 points and 6.4 rebounds while starting in 33 of 65 regular-season games this season. There don’t appear to be any major signs of decline, and Horford told Andscape he would love to play into his 40s.

“My whole thing is like, I want to feel good,” Horford said. “I want to feel like I’m able to contribute. I can have an impact on the game and that I feel good and that I’m enjoying this and I’m enjoying it, man. So, I’m not really going to put an age limit on it type thing. It feels good right now.

“It would be special [playing into his 40s]. There’s not a lot of guys that can say they can do that. LeBron [James] is almost there. But it’d be nice if I can do it and I can keep going.”

I do NOT think Horford is in the kind of Tom Brady situation where his wife wants him to quit. In particular, her own career seems pretty dormant.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelia_Vega doesn't indicate recent career activity
http://www.ameliavega.com isn't even active
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1392123/ has nothing since 2006 but a single voice acting credit (this year, actually)
