So were actually all gonna give Danny a pass on losing his all star point guard that he basically promised us was going no where.

Unbelievable

You retire Danny Ainge, for health reasons.

You fire the idiot son, for always failing reasons.

When the Celtics were a putrid product in 2018-19 which hated the fans and the franchise and each other, you have to remove those who put that abysmal failure on the court.

Yes, many parts of the NBA are rigged and everyone conspires to stop the Celtics, but that does not excuse putting a team of low-intelligence players who are unwatchable and don't care on the floor.

When people have to go back to the 1970s to find a Celtics team that may be as horrible as the current one, that means the people who put it together did a really, really bad job.

Ainge may not be any good anyway, and he just had help from Kevin McHale and then lucked into "negotiating" with Billy King and the idiot Colangelo son.

Don’t include George in this. There was a very clear reason why we didn’t get him. We needed the space to sign Hayward. I’m sure the Celtics were hoping Indy would wait until FA was over but they didn’t.

Kawhi is really the only real miss here. AD was too risky with Kyrie likely gone.

True, but the point is we could have had any one of them and 1st Team All NBAers don't just come up for trade every season.

Owners?

Yikes. If Danny and the owners aren't aligned then we are really in trouble. That's when franchises totally fall apart...

Is this speculation or being reported somewhere?

Super helpful thread. I've been needing to freshen up my ignore list. OP's And1 counter saves me so much time.

Brilliant.

It would have been tough to swallow Davis potentially leaving in a year and losing Tatum in this trade. You want to trade for Davis and still have good to great players around him so that you win and he stays. I'm not sure it would been enough w/ Kyrie leaving.

Firing Ainge may or may not be strong, but his legacy is in the balance. Losing Kyrie for nothing has still not happened and a big part of the plan had to include AD not coming here and Kyrie walking. So let's see what happens

Ainge had a ton of picks and assets and never really turned them into anything we thought it would.

90% of the players he drafted are not on the team and he traded in his chips for a star player that is about to go to not only a team in the same conference but same division.

We are in for yet another rebuild that I don't think Ainge is really up for.

Fire green 89. I would've started the fire danny ainge thread if he traded for AD this means danny is still a great gm in my opinion. He got burned by irving in what I still consider and over pay although I understood the mindset it was a swing and a miss. If he would have swung for ad he would missed again. Danny has still got assets for a different move and hopefully it's not a rental.
Wtf people freaking out about? this thread should be locked.

This could be a tweet from 2014 and it would still be relevant now. They only move Ainge will make is resigning rozier.

Funny, an insider here suggested Danny wanted to do it, but possibly the owners stopped it. Hearing that and if it's true, feel free to join in with Fire Danny chants, because he was going to do it! 8-)

Yah, same exact tweet now for '16, '17, '18, '19.

Thing is Danny didn't pull the trigger because Wyc and co. agreed with him too. If Danny has to go, so should Wyc and co. Obviously that's not going to happen.

It's been hinted that Danny and others were on different sides of doing the deal or not.

Story is over he didn't do it. And its very smart even if he indeed wanted to do it he lucked out I guess.

Green89 wrote:It has to be done. For the past 3-4 years he hoarded and handcuffed the team by not making deadline moves to better the team, waiting all the while for an Anthony Davis trade that never happened. It's time he goes and we move on from the period that will forever go down in Celtics lore as the one where we hoarded assets and got no prize in the end.

He held off on PG13, Butler, Kawhi, and who knows who else, all to get Anthony Davis. This is a disaster of epic porportions. He let three top 10 players go by the wayside and we now have no top options.

agreed. To likely have the Nets be a better team than us next season despite him fleecing their owner and Billy King like that is inexcusable. He squandered all those draft picks and consistently proves he's one of the worst drafting G.M.s in the league. Before he proved to be so bad on draft night I remember being so excited going into drafts armed with multiple picks like in 2014 and 2016. But what Ainge did on those nights was so bad, it's going to affect us for a decade. So now I've learned to expect him to take high floor guys and even be delusional enough to think we have no room for a draft pick so he'll take a draft and stash or two. I promise you, in 3-5 years we'll be talking about how he passed on a Siakam type player or two from this draft. And people will still be defending him and saying he's one of the best G.M.s in the sport.
