hmm, those highlights were singularly unimpressive.

imo madar's best shot is to develop a deadeye 3-ball and try for the steve kerr role.

This Kid's not coming over this year, right? He's a Stash?

He has two more years left on his contract in Israel, so he'll be stashed for at least another year. My guess is that he'll be over there until his contract ends.

If we wanted to bring him over next year, we'd have to pay a fairly large buyout.

I think he looks like he has a ton of promise. And his shot release looks sweet, seems like he could develop into a dead-eye shooter.

Well worth a second round pick. Danny has a knack of finding gems in the second round and Yam can be one.

It feels like if your drafting a Euro in the second round then make it a big man. What is the hit rate on wings and ball handlers in the second round?

Bigs and wings/guards look about the same hitrate to me for euros in the second round. Jokic, Bertans, Bogdanovic, Zubac, Satoransky, Osman, Hernangomez, the only real hits in the last decade. Maybe Okobo, Kurucs or Bonga will be players, but not yet. To even get a rotational player is a find. Jokic just skews it for everyone else.

Here is a video of Yam Madar highlights vs Serbia during the FIBA U-20 European tournament (7/19). It's hard not to get excited about this kid. He knows how to move the ball, and he can shoot it. Yam and Danny Avdija led Israel to their second European U-20 championship in a row, the first team to defend their title since Serbia did (2007-8). They defeated Spain in the championship game. We know that both Serbia and Spain are at the top of the international basketball heap, so that was a pretty impressive performance by Israel. Anyway, check out this video and you will be impressed by Yam's skills.

I read people comparing Madar to Tony Parker and also someone describing him as a "playmaking Leandro Barbosa." It looks like his calling card is defense. We'll see.

Okay I believe. It may take 5 or so years but this guy looks like a pest — like we’ll finally have our own Ish Smith. I only wish Tommy were going to be there to make “YamMadar” jokes — “YamMadar gets to the hole”, “YamMadar hit from deep”, “YaMMadar probed the defense exquisitely” etc. Cause it’ll be so shallow coming from Scal. But so it goes. Play on, Yam, you Yam what you Yam!

Yam Madar scouting report from NBA Draft Net rates his defensive skills highly:

A true “pest” on defense … Has all the tools to become a pesky, lock down defender … He doesn’t back down from anyone on the defensive end … Loves to pressure the opposing point guard full court … Makes life miserable for a ball handler … Has very good lateral quickness and active hands, which leads to a lot of steals … Fights his way around ball screens … Hunts his opponent player around off ball screens …

This defensive highlight video shows how accurate that assessment is:

^ Love this - yellow team PG didn't want to be there. Can't wait for him to get called for 4 ticky tack fouls a game, Theis style.
