Olynyk at the minimum is even better

I think Mo Wagner is going to have a real opportunity to stick around in Boston. Celtics need big men and Wagner will get a chance to show the Celtics if he can do something.

If Wagner shows something I wouldn’t be surprised if the Celtics make him the “New Theis” and sign him to something like a 2 year deal at $3-3.5 million per year. It’s up to Wagner to show something

Thompson and Wagner off the bench in the front court should, at least on paper, work out OK.

I dont think team should target a bigman in buyout. Look for another wing if looking to really make a stroing playoff push. (i know it will push Nesmith and Romeo further down the depth chart)

He is better than Grant.

Either a big wing to relegate grant and semi to garbage time (Otto Porter), or a chance to preview someone we could resign (Dieng?).

I guess Drummond will hear our pitch, but wasnt the upside of Theis being a cap casualty more Tinelord? Theis is more of a complementary role player than Drummond. Not sold on that idea, maybe he takes Thompsons minutes? Probably wont pick here anyway....

Yeah I really don't get the Drummond pitch. Ainge just said that the Theis move opens up minutes for Timelord, who has been our best defender. Theis could at least pretend to be a PF for a two big lineup; there's no room for Drummond in that scenario. He can't play with Rob or Thompson.

Let's hope Otto Porter Jr. gets bought out & go hard after him.

Walker | Pritchard
Smart | Fournier
Brown
Tatum | Porter
Thompson | Timelord

I actually really like that 9-man rotation.

I disagree. Grant's defense has been getting back to where he was last year, he can play in the post when he gets the opportunity, and he's shooting over 40% from 3 on the season. He's versatile as a switcher on defense which is really important to our defense getting back to respectability. I'm not against Wagner, I've got a soft spot for guys that play hard all the time, but Grant's stock as a bench player is on the rise for me.

Cap fellas, do we have any room to sign any of the mentioned options without triggering the repeater tax? If not and we scoop someone up I'd be kind of surprised but it would certainly signal we're pushing to right the ship and make some noise this season.

Wagner ranks better defensively in every single metric over Grant.
Wagner is as quick as Grant as well, so switching really isnt an issue.

Where are you looking at the metrics for this? Not arguing the point but I'd like to check it out.

Thanks. It's basically the same thing I'm seeing, neither really stands out in career numbers. Grant a little better at blocks, Mo a little better at steals, Grant a little better at 3's, Mo a little better overall offensively, etc. Surprising really. Career DRTG is almost identical, Grant has an advantage in DWS and DPBM. I'm not saying I totally understand the source of those numbers but Wagner doesn't rank better in every defensive metric by any means. Both, in their very young careers, are pretty mediocre by most measures.

If you look at careers yeah, look at just this season. Wagner is better

Ah, I see what you are looking at now. Both playing for pretty equally poor defensive teams as well. Well, it gives me more hope for Mo outside of being a fun to watch try hard. I still think Grant is the higher upside player, especially shooting over 40% from 3 and pretty solidly overall at 45% but time will tell.

I do think we can waive Kornet and still sign someone to a rest-of-season minimum contract without triggering the tax.

I would take Potter or Olynyc but good luck to Danny selling a FA on a sub 500 who's celling is maybe wining one game in the first round.

I'm going to contact DA and make sure you aren't involved in the pitch.

Wagner isn't going to take G. Williams' minutes. He's going to replace Theis' minutes, along with more minutes for the TimeLord.

Combine numbers mean nothing to me. The question is, can Wagner play basketball in the context of what the Celtics are trying to do? Grant Williams has shown the ability to do that--sometimes. Wagner has shown nothing so far.

Wagner is not going to play when TT is available.

Return to Boston Celtics
