I deleted that gross post by Valencia.
A shame to waste Jaylen’s best game of the season, dude was unreal shooting the ball. But the loss doesn’t matter, big picture wise. There’s going to be a learning curve with the new defense, as we saw tonight.

I think people in general are being a little too hard on Grant. Randle is a 6'9 2nd team all NBA power forward. Of course Grant is gonna lose that matchup. But so will juancho. Or Kanter. Or literally any availble body the c's had tonight.
They need Horford back so either he can guard randle, or Williams can and they can have Horford still there to guard the rim. They could also very much use one more PF like guy. My dream is they flip one of Richardson/Langfor/Nesmith or just use the TPE+ a 1st to bring in a PF rotation guard to add a little functional size by the deadline, but that may depend on them being good enough to justify the upgrade.
Grant played well. Randle is good, and grant isn’t strong enough.
No idea how anyone can watch that game and think grant didn’t play well. He didn’t what he could .

Ime is going to take awhile to get a feel. I like the fact he is a hands off coach, but man, no Kanter, and little of Nesmith, Romeo and Pp in second half .

15/5/4 in 31 minutes. He couldn’t guard Randle but after they took him off Randle he played good team defense and was a big contributor in the comeback.

Randle is a tough out for anyone one on one. Rob looked ok on him but Randle wasn't exactly on fresh legs by then, Smart drew the one charge on him but other than that until they started doubling him he was having his way with everyone and a lot of it was against some decent D.

I don't expect Tatum to be a post up player but I wish he would go back to what he did well when he started his NBA career.......a solid mid range game. He has to have the same mindset as Paul Pierce.......get to the free throw line multiple times per game.
Tatum drove to the hoop more and drew more fouls than Jaylen last season. Tatum dropped 50+ four times in the last 6 weeks of last season lol, while being the most double teamed front court player in the league.
Your post is the very definition of recency bias.

BostonCouchGM wrote:really fun game to watch provided you don't care at all about defense or coaching. Must have been incredible to be there live. Tatum's new muscles altered his shot. He'll be fine. Brown's defense took a hit last season as his offense improved and it looks like the trend continues. I think this will be the last time you see defensive indifference towards Jaylen from other teams. He can beat you. You can't defend him with Fournier and Rose. It's no coincidence that he got sloppy and much less effective in the 2nd half once RJ and Randle defended him at times. Ime is a disaster as predicted, playing vets over more talented young guys. This is going to be a long season with lots of games like this. It will be entertaining but we aren't winning a championship with this squad and coach and that's sad. It'd be more palatable if we got a chance to watch our young guys play more though, maybe that'll happen as the cream rises to the top. On to Game 2!
Probably his greatest game of his career & you still manage to criticise him lol
Did you ever stop to think maybe he was less effective in the second half because he hasn’t been able to practice with the team for ten days & was probably tired as hell ?

I thought Ime would be different from Stevens. With Horford out, Kanter and Juancho should have been given minutes. Plus they put pressure on other teams’ defense. Especially kanter on his post up moves. Grant is just good for outside shot, and they just leave him free. Good for Grant for making shots at least. Looks like what analysts say about Tatum si somewhat correct. That he still doesn’t make his teammates better. He is still more on getting the stats and look good, than do what it takes to win. He bulked up for what??? He lost his speed and ability to beat defenses off the dribble. Something that he had as a rookie. Still, it’s the first game. Let’s see what Udoka and tatum does next.

Exciting game to watch.
Brown was great. Wish his laid up that shot instead of missing the dunk.
Rob was pretty good but needed to do better on the boards. Yes he had 10 but could have had another 3 or 4 in his 45 minutes.
Tatum lost us the game. 7-30 from the field, 2-15 from 3. Stop shooting from deep when your shot isn't falling and drive to the basket.
Grant was solid throughout the game and great in the 4th quarter with 11 points in that quarter and 3 for 3 from 3.
Schroder was ok, but missed a lot of shots. Same for Smart.
Romeo was good in the 1st half, hardly played after that.
Nesmith didn't miss two 3's in a row after 244 shots in practice, missed 3 straight on 3 3sin this game.

Schroder, Smart and Tatum combined to go 17-60 from the field.
Fournier killed us with 32 on 52% shooting. Julius Randle was a beast as usual.

Tatum had almost as many air balls as made baskets lmao, dude was wilding out there. Think we see a nice bounce back game from him Friday.
I really hope they manage Jaylen’s minutes somewhat against the Raps, dude deserves a nice 25 minute game lol.

Smart, Schroeder, and the combined trio of Nesmith/Pritchard/Langford each had roughly comparable stat lines, with Romeo's shooting balancing Nesmith's and Pritchard's COMBINED 0 points.
One exception: The youngsters didn't get much in the way of assists.

Agree on the non shooters. Tatum couldn't buy a basket and playing Smart and Schroder together in crunch time was scary bad.
Our best shooter was Fournier. Now it's probably Pritchard but I don't expect him to shoot well until that mask comes off.
I don't trust Nesmith as a shooter yet. For a guy who is known for shooting he missed some shots really bad. That's not a sign of a good shooter. I'm hoping he becomes a good shooter because this team could use that.

Also huge props to Jaylen Brown for the most points scored by a Celtic in Celtics history, on an opening night.

Ya when richardson comes back you can't play two out of Smart, Richardson, Schroder at the same time in Crunch time. Just can't do it. Smart-Jaylen-Tatum-Timelord are on the floor for sure. You have some guys to chose from for the final spot like Horford, Pritchard, Langford, GWill. May come down to the match up. Langford and Williams hitting threes would be big.
