If the Celtics can’t combine salaries then why change the roster? They can’t get anyone who would help them.

That’s a common misconception. The Celtics CAN combine salaries as long as the deal results in them getting under the 2nd apron.

That is true. It won’t happen so it’s not worth talking about is I guess my point.

Likely not happening before the trade deadline. But I won’t count out major changes in the offseason especially if we don’t repeat and new owners are cheap.

When we last won it, in 2008, we had Rajon Rondo, Leon Powe, Big Baby Davis & Tony Allen contributing on rookie deals
We also signed veteran minimum free agents: James Posey, PJ Brown, Eddie House, Sam Cassell who contributed on 1 yr deals for a chance at a ring

Our current playoff rotation, NO contributor is on a rookie deal, and NO contributor took a veteran minimum to chase a ring. So the team is so expensive, it’s not clear if the financials are sustainable or if we are gonna be dumping salary obligations before the deadline. Guess we’ll find out this week

I believe that 2008 isn't the last time the Celtics won the championship. Time to update your cultural references

I don't necessarily want to trade any player away. I'd like us to acquire a playable stretch big, which will necessitate sending someone out. Tillman looks physically shot so he'd be my first choice to go. Springer might well still "make it" but his salary is obviously easiest to work with in a deal and could save the team a lot. If saving the $20M or whatever it is we save from trading him away and backfilling with Peterson on a converted 2-way deal helps in any way maintain actual core players in the future then I'm ok dumping him.

Springer didn’t play. I assume he is headed to Utah for Kessler.
