Disappointing... for some reason I was under the impression last night we had the MLE. Dangercart is almost always right with this stuff though so I'll take his/your word on it.

That's what Murphy reported last night in the Herald, so Dangercart gets credit at least for being able to read the papers (maybe more).

Can't take back any more salaries. Not enough outgoing salary.

If the Celtics use cap room to sign Rozier, then trade him for Kemba, BYC is not in play. It makes it easier to match salaries. Or add a third team. JUST GET A TALL HUMAN PLEASE

Huh? BYC-like rules apply to Rozier's salary in any trade salary-matching scenario.

Well this crosses Morris and Looney off the list.

No wonder we aren’t signing anyone. He have $4.7m left.

I will never understand cap space. We lost Kyrie, Horford, Rozier, Baynes, most likely Morris. That’s going to be like $70 million or more off the books and we take back $35m in Kemba and we have $4.7 left to sign someone. Numbers don’t make sense.

And I don’t care to have it explained to me either. Something needs to change with how they make up their rules regarding cap space.

The most likely way at this point to get a good center is via trade.

We're still signing Tacko Fall, right? Him and Tremont Waters are already bonding.

In the current scenario where the trade is just between Boston and Charlotte, BYC is not triggered. Celtics sign Rozier into cap space before trading him. But we can't absorb any more salary since our cap space is limited. Kemba's $32.7 alone almost eats up all of it.

No.

If a team re-signs its Bird or Early Bird free agent in order to trade the player in a sign-and-trade transaction, the player's new salary is greater than the minimum, he receives a raise greater than 20%, and the team is at or above the cap immediately after the signing, then the player's outgoing salary for trade purposes is either his previous salary or 50% of his new salary, whichever is greater.

All 3 things need to be true for the BYC rule to be applied. Celtics would be under the cap after signing him, therefore BYC for Rozier would not apply.

It’s very simple.....if you way overspend, you get to way overspend more with full MLE. If you don’t overspend....you get less room to pay for free agents. See...it’s perfectly logical.

Maybe the Celtics can start looking at players from the big 3. Patrick O'Bryant, Greg Oden, or Jermaine O'Neal.

I guess people are saying it could be French center Vincent Poirier.

This is terrible cap management. I'm sure the owners are happy that the team can't spend that 24 mil, but it is totally preventing us from signing players needed to be a legit contender.

I was trying to add up our salaries and thinking we had to have money to spend.

The answer is we do have money, we just can't spend it.

What do you mean?

We have limited cap space -- good enough for one max player (Kemba).
Either we do that or we re-sign our own free agents. We likely overpay at least two of Horford/Morris/Rozier. And at least two of them might not even want to return here.

The centers most likely to join Boston at the beginning of free agency are still available: Kanter, Theis (staying), and Poirier. Now WCS and Looney are more liable to sign than they were. Plus Cousins is out there.

The center prospects haven't worsened for the Celtics yet. Patience may yet pay off as far as getting a few guys in this tier. It's not an ideal outcome, but this group was always the most probable.

A big name through a trade is still possible too...

So our pitch to remaining bigs is 2/10 under the room MLE, sorry guys that’s all we got, but you will get significant minutes and probably start and get to run PNRs with Kemba Walker

You in?

Fingers crossed for Nerlens Noel at this point.
