**** the cheap ass red sox ownership. Used an MVP to Salary dump our #2 SP. All to fatten the wallets of an ownership group that raised both ticket and concession prices. Im done being a fan of this team.

Sox trading betts is enough to make me stop being a fan honestly.

At least while this ownership is still in charge

Doesn't matter what anyone says, most people in my town will religiously be watching the Red Sox like cult followers this season yet again. Rinse and repeat every season, especially the old dudes.

I follow baseball, but usually find myself hating it more than enjoying it. This is definitely one of those moments, as a fan of a NL team that isn't the Dodgers.

Dont know if its Boston media spin but I've gotten the impression that Betts didn't want to stay in Boston. Or it could be that the owner just doesnt want to pay him a 300+ million contract in a year.

**** John Henry that cheap piece of ****. Nook should have been a Red Sock for life. I know baseball people have been saying this was coming, but when Fenway charges 10/beer and have some of if not the most expensive tickets in mlb this is inexcusable.

I haven't followed the situation closely, but it has sounded to me like the the team has wanted to trade him for some time and he probably recognized it.

In any event, I thought the team ****ed up by not proactively agreeing to pay the guy the 10.5 mil he requested in 2018 when he was finally eligible for arbitration (the team countered with a 7.5 mil offer and lost in arbitration).

25 year old kid, on a rookie deal, won two gold glove awards and had finished 2nd in 2016 MVP voting. Pay the guy the $10 mil he requests and clearly deserves. It was a bad look and probably set the wrong tone for future negotiations.

Henry is a lot of things but a cheap mofo he is not. He spent like the Yankees to win our latest WS.

The fact is we weren't coming close to winning anything with Betts next year. Price was an albatross. Our farm system sucks. We could try to patch things together and hope for a miracle, or start a true rebuild. But for that we need some good young players and better salary flexibility.

I think Bloom has started down the right road. Expect to see more of this, it's going to get worse before it gets better. The Sox went 86 years between titles, we can wait a couple more to rebuild a true powerhouse.

I love Betts and am really disappointed. However, a 10 yr 400 mil contract for a guy with his frame is risky so I understand why they traded him now. They don’t are more afraid of another dead contract like Dustin Pedroia than they are of backlash for losing second best player in league who is a really likable guy. I am more upset that they spent money so foolishly on Price and Sale and lost all minor league assets and put themselves in this position.

I'll preface this by saying blaming anyone Bloom for trading Mookie is silly, he was put in a no win situation. Everyone knew he was basically told he had to trade Mookie, Verdugo and especially Brusdar are both extremely talented pieces. That said, Verdugo has some legit character/effort issues, so Bloom better have done his homework on him.

**** Dombrowski for putting the franchise in this position, and **** ownership for allowing him to do so. There we other ways they could have shed salary last season to get under the tax. Mookie would have gone down as the 2nd best position player in Red Sox history, but instead we get to watch a broken down Sale and Eovaldi. There is no justifying why it came to this.

Graterol is legit though, his stuff is ridiculous.

Putting aside whether or not this was the smart move, I've been a Sox fan since I came outta the womb, and one trade isn't going to change that.

They did agree to give him $30M this year. But maybe the damage had been done.

We've all heard rumors that he might want to sign elsewhere. Who knows how true they are, but it seems like Bloom saw some danger.

I would have done whatever I could to lock up Mookie. You plan and plan and plan in order to get a guy like this.

At least we got back 2 seemingly legit players. And Price's contract was going to be an albatross.

The luxury tax rules killed us.

FO and ownership probably should've had the foresight not to sign Eovalda (in the least) even if fans were clamoring for him.

Not a big baseball guy, but can anyone give me a real reason why David Price was so hated? Got overpaid, got hurt, then was massive in winning us a title. Seems like that was enough for JD Drew to be redeemed.

Why is having to get along with the Red Sox sportswriters even a thing?

The persona he shows to fans is awful. Made him unlikeable. People love Eckersley and the way he acted towards him was beyond classless and disrespectful - and Boston fans simply wont tolerate a DB. In most every way that matters Kyrie is a pretty good guy - clean living, dedicated to his craft, stays out of trouble off the court - but his personality would never work here. Even if he had resigned here it was over for him with fan base too. Meanwhile, fans really liked Josh Gordon.

Right on, although I feel like part of it is a racial thing, hence you throwing on that last sentence to diffuse it.

I mean, I get it. He's not a "Boston" type of guy, and red Sox fans are whiners by nature, but don't we also celebrate our winners? I feel like no one would have **** to say about Kyrie had he led us to a title first.

EDIT: not calling you racist, of course. Just think Gordon is irrelevant here, and including him read to me like, "Here's a random black guy we didn't hate," and sort of a subconscious acknowledgment of what part of the issue is here.
