I went and looked and only guy I could find in the last 15 years who had a 2.5% STL rate and 5% block rate was Nerlens Noel in 2014-15. But that's just among minutes-qualified players; I'm sure a few more have done it in limited minutes like WIlliams. Like Noel himself does it most seasons, Jon Issac last year did it in limited minutes. But no one even close to his career averages of 2.7stl%, 9.3blk%. And he plays 16 minutes. It has to be a medical issue.

He needs as many minutes as his health will allow. He does some boneheaded stuff sometimes, but his potential is off the charts.

I mean the difference between beating Denver and losing to Atlanta as probably not Timelord playing 19 mins and 3 seconds vs the Hawks as opposed to 20 mins and 2 seconds vs Denver.

Have you see how many plays he can make in 59 seconds?

Plenty of time to get a steal or block and follow it up with a vicious 1 handed dunk on the other end.

Brad has now clearly said that Williams' minutes are being managed with the intent of playing him more minutes later in the season.

https://www.bostonherald.com/2021/02/21/0221-bh-s-celticsnotes-3/

“The hip is not bothering him, but we’re just trying to manage it over the course of the long season so that he’s available more often than not, and then able to peak in minutes late,” said Brad Stevens. “So I guess it’s more of a just be alert to it. Obviously he had the two games that he sat out because it was bothering him, but we’re just alert to it.

“Like I’ve said before, we’re in a good position with him from the standpoint that I think he’s getting a lot better, I think he’s doing a lot of good things. He makes a big impact on our team. And I think as the season progresses, and this is just another thing that you try to keep in the back of your mind from my seat is like, we need him to be able to play higher minutes as the season gets later.

Using my simple formula.. Timelord + 30 min per = damn good center.

I will give Stevens the benefit of doubt on this. But as another poster said, by years end, he better be playing 30+ per.

Williams is the perfect center for the team and the style of play. He is theis and thompson's replacement. He isn't a great offensive player though, so we need points from the PF spot, if it is tatum playing the 4, so be it.

The Celtics don’t have a recognized 6th man right now. But in a way, their best scorer off the bench is Rob.

He scores more per 36 minutes than Pritchard or Smart. He creates paint points, which is something the starters struggle to do. His teammates play a bit smarter when they know he’s lurking. He gives them a bit of a jolt of energy with the ups and downs.

One of the few bright spots in this so far gloomy season. He does things on the floor that no one else in this roster can do. When's the last time we've had a player of this physical/athletic archetype? Hope they can work out an extension as soon as he's eligible.

At the very least, he's fun to watch. Can't say the same for most of our guys on most nights. :(

Sean Williams for part of a season springs to mind. But even he was a level below Timelord.

Houston recently released DeMarcus Cousins. Could the Celtics trade Thompson for Pj Tucker? Thompson has the size to play center for extended minutes where Tucker does not. Tucker is also and expiring.

Houston does seem to love Tucker so if they will not bite on that (which I think they will not) how about Thompson and Edwards for Donte Exum. This of course is nothing but a salary dump and Houston likely wants more than a young scrub like Edwards. I think it comes down to whether Houston would still like to win this year which it looks like they do not.

One more, same as above but the Rockets throw in Daniel House to help the Celtic win and help the Rockets tanks, while the Celtics throw in Romeo Langford to giving the Rockets a former lottery pick who is still young.

1 - I still rather see what Langford has before trading him. Normally I like Cousin> TT if possible, but No way that is happening. I think Tucker has some suitors in Utah-Nets-Philly LAL,LAC maybe. Also think TT won't be traded, though I would love it just to see RW get 30 minutes if possible.

I don't understand why we don't simply have rotation nights off. Let Rob play 25-30 1 game and give Theis a night off, then let Theis play 30 and give Rob the night off. We always have Tacko for spot duty if someone gets injured or in foul trouble. I just don't see how that wouldn't be a more prudent way to manage minutes over the long season than simply playing 15-20 every game. Maybe someone who is a fitness expert can enlighten me because in my personal experience recovery days with higher intensity seems to work better than simply having a slightly less intense strain on the body but barely ever taking recovery days.

Is it my imagination, or is Williams the Celtics' most consistent player, by a considerable margin?

It is Not. Rob has simple but very effective attributes. I still can't wait to the day when he plays 30 min per.

Offense is just so efficient. Doesn't need a ton of touches. Knows his role. Perfect fit
