Excluding garbage time?

I think we're 15th or 16th without garbage time. Wait at least 20 games before even taking these ratings seriously or reading into them. The Celtics aren't scoring 140 points per 100 possessions for a full season.

Our garbage time the first 2 games were from around half of the 3rd at least. :)

I don’t know how they are calculating it.

I don’t know how they are calculating it.

Here's CleaningtheGlass's definition:
The exact definition CTG uses is: the game has to be in the 4th quarter, the score differential has to be >= 25 for minutes 12-9, >= 20 for minutes 9-6, and >= 10 for the remainder of the quarter. Additionally, there have to be two or fewer starters on the floor combined between the two teams.

Importantly, the game can never go back to being non-garbage time, or this clock resets. For example, if it's a 30 point game to start the 4th quarter, but one team comes back and pulls the game within 8, that comeback is not counted as garbage time. If the leading team regains control and expands the lead back out, garbage time would start when the score went back above 10.

This might not capture all of what we'd call garbage time, but it seeems important to err on the side of caution and not mistakenly filter out any game time that we would not consider garbage time.

Right. I mean if we're going to freak out about our defensive rating then we should equally freak out about our offensive rating.

I'm not worried about the defense, at least not yet. First these are tiny sample sizes. Second we are missing our starting center. And third, playing defense requires a lot of effort. When you're blowing an opponent out because your offense is putting up 20 point leads in every game, it's hard to maintain that level of effort the whole game rather than just give yourself some rest. Coasting is both natural human behavior, as well as a somewhat rational way to avoid wear and tear or injury risk over the course of a season, but they will need to get reps in with playoff level defense at some point before the playoffs actually start. So I expect the team to lock in more in closer games, big games against rival teams, and near the end of the season to prepare for the playoffs. I will be more worried if we start showing that we can't keep teams from scoring even when we have every reason to try hard.

Since 2000 the C’s had just 3 draft picks in the top 5 and they hit on all 3. Jeff Green counts because we got Ray Ray. So many teams had multiple top 5 picks during that stretch and absolutely crapped the bed.

Very early days, but the Celtics have a 34.5 point advantage from 3 PER GAME! over their opponent. That's more than triple their advantage (10.68) from last season.

One thing that consistently amazes me watching Celtics highlights is how everyone on the team knows exactly where they need to be on the court at any given moment. You rarely see teams so well prepared. Clearly a mix of great coaching and elite on-court awareness by a bunch of smart veteran players.

PP having somewhat of a breakout season will come as a bit of a shock for most Real GMers,
who wouldn't have traded a Late First or Two Seconds for him...

JB took 30 shots in his last game in a year he's started off bricking more than making. It concerns me of his lack of self-awareness and lack of willingness to defer to teammates.

Two stats that recent NBA Champions exhibit are 1.31 or better Points Per Shot and 55% or better True Shooting % (factors in 3's and Free Throws). Current year Celtics are 4-1 with a 11.4 Point differential thru 5 games. That might be good for best all time if they maintained it for 82 games.

2024-2025 Points Per Shot (1.31 or greater typical TEAM AVERAGE of NBA Champions)
1.600 Derrick White
1.564 Jrue Holiday
1.533 Al Horford
1.438 Jayson Tatum
1.421 Payton Pritchard
1.400 Neemias Queta
1.333 Luke Kornet
1.333 Bayler Scheierman

1.162 Jaylen Brown
1.000 Jayden Springer
0.938 Sam Hauser
0.722 Xavier Tillman
0.286 Jordan Walsh

Effective Shooting % (55% or better typical TEAM AVERAGE of NBA Champions)
0.77 Al Horford
0.70 Derrick White
0.66 Payton Pritchard
0.65 Jrue Holiday
0.60 Jayson Tatum
0.60 Neemias Queta

0.47 Sam Hauser
0.45 Jaylen Brown
0.42 Luke Kornet
0.36 Xavier Tillman
0.33 Baylor Scheierman
0.14 Jordan Walsh
0.00 Jaden Springer
