This is going to be my receipt in 5 years time...

At 14, I'm picking whoever's going to be a star in 3 years.
At 26, I'm picking whoever's going to be a star in 5 years.
At 30, I'm picking whoever's going to be a rotational player in 3 years.
At 47, I'm picking whoever's still in the league in 5 years.

Fire Danny if he can't do the same.

best we take:

#14 low floor low ceiling like James Young or Langford
#26 high floor low ceiling like Grant Williams
#30 draft and stash even though there really isn’t a roster crunch, like Yabusele and Zizic
#47 useless senior guard instead of high ceiling project, like Waters, and Jackson

Then when our bench is garbage and it’s proven over time that we passed on stars and starters at every pick, have it handwaved away because “drafting is hard” and “no other GMs are any better” by Celtics forum apologists and Celtics beat writer sycophants

I think he'll be one of the best 14 players from this draft in 5 years time.

I just think he's quite raw and needs to be taught how to play basketball properly. He's only 19.

I am a UofA Alum, beardown! I disagree that he will be anything more then a rotation player, he doesn't block shots he doesn't rebound at a super high rate (average for a decent college PF). While he has excellent height and mobility (6'10 barefoot) he is not especially long, and didn't block shots in college. Do you know how hard it is to be 6'11 plus in shoes, fast and block less then a shot a game in college. Dude has no hops. Now, not saying he is not worth say pick #30, there are things he can do, he will be a better PNR defender then most of the bigs we have spent more time talking about but he will never be a rim protector. He has a decent stroke, shot over 75% from the line and is one of the youngest players in the draft. So if you are cool with a Kelly Oynyk type he is not a bad option (Onlynk blocked more shots but had fewer rebounds per game in college) I think Olink in the lotto was a mistake but he is very young, has good size and is one to consider at 30.

He can rebound at a decent rate, shoot and defend on the perimiter, if you focus on those things and are cool playing a big that will provide no rim protection he is your guy, he actually might be a really good option to defend Bam, fast enough to stay in front and make him score over length, but he won't come from the weakside and block Jimmy's drive.

Settle down there, Buckeroo.
We still have a whole month before the Draft.

Based on everything I've read and and the little I've seen, including on this forum (I don't have cable, sat, or an OTA antenna), it seems the #1 need is improvements on Theis, Wannamaker, and a SF. They have 3 picks.

As much as I hated the Langford pick, he's got a 6'11" wingspan. I'd give him another year. What I don't want is to see Danny Boy go into another fit of panic and blow away the picks on veterans.

As for Grant Williams, I found this cool video.

If there are no trades, I'd say:

At 14, pick Theo Maledon (probably a star in year 3)
At 26, pick Jaden McDaniels (raw, probably will bust)
At 30, pick Oturu/Nnaji (if available, either would be a decent bench big)
At 47, pick Riller (looks like a solid 2nd/3d PG)

Just trade the picks. Package them with someone in a trade. I'm tired of multiple rookies on this roster every year. Get some real veterans in here that will keep some of these young players in check. Including Smart. It doesn't even have to be a star player it could be someone on Patrick Beverly's level or a Derrick Favors/Milsap type. No more rookies.

not sure how i feel about trading up to get a 22 year old rookie. Can he play the 5 for us? otherwise........

i mean, if he falls to 7 and we trade all our picks to the pistons, i wouldn't be mad

Yes, thats my understanding— there was some thought he could sneak into the end of round 1, but ultimately he withdrew, I'm guessing due to not receiving a promise.

I wouldn't hate Toppin. But I think he's going top 5. Going to be pricey..

This guy couldn't get drafted last year and is going to be top 5 this year?

that says something about this draft and what we think of him. We had three picks last year, if we wanted him we could have made him a promise with pone of our three picks. I'll pass.

Its a testament to a player who grew half a foot at 18/19 working his ass off to become the collegiate player of the year

He turned 21 this season. He was a solid player the year before tho, so I'm not writing him off, but an awful lot of players break out the season after they hit 21. And they often get credit for working their ass off when in reality, the biggest reason for their success was turning 21 and hitting physical maturity.

Most people are done growing at 16/17 though and dont hit growth spurts like Obi did.

Yeah, I don't know much about his past.

Saddiq Bey is another guy who grew a ton throughout high school, and might not be done growing just yet.
