I hope they don't deal JB. I think the best path to another title is to keep both Jays and win around the margins with the right supporting cast for the 2027-31 window.

That said, the lasting image of Brown limping through the playoffs and then getting a meniscus surgery, and having four years $235 million left on the deal, and Wyc publically proclaiming that no team will do a 3rd yr in second apron (which kills Brad's leverage, dunno why Wyc is saying that on the radio???)... anyway, I don't think we can expect an offer this rich given these circumstances

But, if Brad decides JB trade is best way forward, I would be thrilled with this return. I just wouldn't count on it

That's the point, you don't trade him unless it's an overpay.

What is this Jaylen Brown to Spurs rumor circulating? And who is driving him to the airport?

Last part is difficult. Phil Pressey said he got some other gig, so transportation plans are up in the air.

I don't know what Brad's vision for this Cs team moving forward, but what we saw from the Celtics last season will not be good enough to beat OKC.

The inefficiency from JT and the bad decisions from JB will be exploited by OKC to the fullest.

Mazzulla-Ball needs to be tweaked also.

Reason why moving JB is a possibility is because of financial reasons.

JB's talent is not a question.

The new CBA is just not ideal for teams having 2 supermax players or multiple max players.

In this era of NBA basketball, it's about having more quality role players.

Lakers and Suns couldn't put together a balanced roster because of having multiple max players.

So trading JB for more depth and roster balance is not a bad thing.

A little bed time story…

Here’s what happened prior to me posting about and advocating for Porzingis just before this time last year. I identified a need for the team and how they would go about filling it. They needed a big, preferably one that could shoot, and they almost exclusively play guys that can play D, are versatile and/or can shoot. Porzingis was most of those and was actually coming off an elite scoring efficiency campaign. He was also FA eligible and was a total no brainer at the time imo.

So my first go at it was not ideal suggesting Brown for Porzingis and an ahem promising young wing. To which people were induced to vomit.

This year is tough and I don’t know what they will do. What they won’t do though is trade for short inefficient pigeon holed two guards that make a bunch of money I feel confident in that.

Had no idea there was a “rumor”. It’s just an obvious possible trade destination and it’s come up several times the last few months. It was just its turn again on the endless circle that is the trade thread.

Celtics should be doing similar for Jaylen Brown. Just a little less.

I saw your post after I had sent my last post. It seems if Giannis stays in Milwaukee the Celtics/Spurs can at least kick the tires.

Give me that package and 2 other future firsts, I’ll take 29 and 31, maybe a pick swap in 30 too. Brown and fox will be older and if healthy, maybe still near top pay ages. Spurs may win some games these next few years, then will need to get off some money. If healthy, Wemby may be looking at the largest super max ever at that stage.

Yeah, spurs will be in a tough spot with money in a few years, if we trade with them, we must choose the right picks.

I know many of you don’t think we could get that type of package, maybe you’re right, but I hope Brad would keep him if it’s not near that type of haul.

Edit: If it wasn’t shady, I’d bet good money Luka could have easily gotten that original package. With all his defensive warts. I’m not even sure he wouldn’t get more. There would have been a bidding war.

I think part of the secrecy was because they didn’t want Luka to say he wasn’t going to play for the team he would be traded to, they didn’t want him to kill any of the deals they could’ve gotten. Remember, he didn’t want to leave, he cried about it.

I'd probably do it for a base of Castle, Vassell, #2 and 1-2 picks in the future. That's enough stuff to spin out for a new (but non-supermax) star year after next.

Jaylen
Wemby
Fox

is a pretty great win-now base for SA. And also might reflect the idea that they aren't sure Wemby will have a long career.

playa-hater wrote:Can we stop saying trading for a talented Rookie "isn't a Sure thing".. Of course it isn't. It would be a gamble. But some gambles are worth the risk. Some are not. That is where GM's have to make the Difficult decision. That's what can separate good-bad-great ones.

If this was a Brown for Cooper Flag proposal, would anyone say no? ( well I guess there is always someone) But point is, is it a sure thing Cooper (who I love) is a sure thing to end up better than Harper?

And this is more than just trading Brown the player. It is also trading Brown and his contract. THAT is totally being forgotten for some reason. Trading Brown gets Boston quite a few other players besides a talented rookie.

Can't prove it, but I would bet Stevens trades Brown if the possibility for #2 + plus players actually became possible. The ball is in SAS court.

It’s not just the gamble, it’s about the market for a finals MVP and multiple time all star.

Just look at the haul Memphis got for Desmond Bane.

Trading away Jaylen with the main piece being pick 2 in a draft with no sure thing is crazy work.

At minimum the core of Brown and Tatum in a weak East has you in the top 3-4. This has been proven virtually every season of their career.

To break it up on a gamble like that is crazy in my eyes and I believe strongly that Brad would agree.

This current roster is flawed. To many players who settle. Lack of killer instinct.
Huge changes are needed. Betting everything on whether KP can stay healthy is a joke.
Oh, and this team costs 1/2 a bill, smh

The only stopping this thing from winning it all this year was health.

Had nothing to do with killer instinct. Porzingis turned into one of the worst players in the playoffs with whatever he had. Holiday never got healthy. Brown’s knee was banged up.

The team is flawed in that it relies on Porzingis and a very old Horford.

So yes some sort of change is needed. However that doesn’t mean you need to blow everything up.

Brown, Tatum, White, maybe Porzingis on a team friendly deal and a couple of half decent role players is enough to get out of the East in my opinion.

Even further for me! It’s not even really a team, but since Wemby is a spurs, I want Spurs to do well… only if it’s not involving us.
