There's no way Dallas would do that. Lively has started the majority of the games he's played in in the NBA, despite being only 19 as a rookie.

I believe the plan is to start him at the 5 this season, with AD at the 4, Flagg at the 3 and Washington and Gafford off the bench.

They don't really need Hauser, with Klay, Marshall, PJ, Flagg and AD at the 3/4 spots..Christie gives them another shooter off the bench too.

The bigger need is a 5 with AD being more of a 4 and being injury prone..

Plus, long term Dallas will have Lively at the 5 and Flagg at the 4 probably, with AD getting too old/injury prone in the next couple of years..Lively is basically their only other good player who's on Flagg's timeline so they're definitely keeping him. If they move anyone it would probably be either Klay, Gafford, Marshall or Washington.

Not really sure who would want Hauser at this point. Orlando upgraded their wing shooters and Detroit is pretty set their now too. There might not be much of a market for Hauser, which might be why he hasn't been moved yet..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

That's a good one!

U think Brad wants his hands tied above second apron?

If the goal is to win, you need to cut salary this year.

Brad would love to have his hands tied with a huge payroll. The owners are the cost cutters.

I forgot Lively was a rookie in the Finals.

This is very encouraging if we can land a prime center prospect in 2026 draft, we can build a support system around him, sign RobWil and Nikola Vuc for cheap, keep whoever emerges of Queta/Garza/Amari ... and we're ready to roll... we just need a Dereck Lively in the next draft and we can patch together a workable center corps

I agree with Hal but I think a Simons/picks for Lively trade would solve the cap issues and the front court issues. I wonder if Dallas would do Hauser or Simons for Gafford? Would Brad?

Sign Ben Simmons as a vet min to play center and maybe secure us a lottery pick?

Time for my "Lordy" take.

So, why the hell would Dame want to come here and why would we want Dame??

We can't offer Dame more money, a legit contender chance or a sunshine state like Miami or anything out west.

And for us getting Dame would make us so small, he is injured and old.. makes no sense.

I wonder if we could package Simons and Hauser for Malik Monk and some draft compensation. Monk has been in the rumor mill and his game closely resembles Simons enough. Monk is not expiring contract though.

Not center but as a Point PF, I am in. He can play defense, rebound and pass. He would make our young players better. Get rid of Niang already. I want a soft tank and development of our young players.

BTW Mike Brown is an excellent coach for NY. Not sure why it took so long for NY to interview him. Ditto for Taylor Jenkins. Both coaches have had teams that move the ball and have players cutting non stop.

I also deem the NYK as the team to beat in the East. for whatever that is worth.

Yuck. They'd be better off (and save money long term) to just roll off Simons and keep Hauser.

Gallows humor, my friend.

I wanted them to say F the second apron, keep everyone, and hope JT healed in record time.

As a Celtic fan, if I bought the Celtics and said we’ll pay whatever it takes to try to win titles, that’s what I would’ve done.

Instead, Brad obviously got an index card from the new owners saying “under the tax” — and so here we are learning about all sorts of end of bench guys.

The owners aren't driving salary reduction. Brad is for BASKETBALL reasons.

What you’ve stated in all caps is the party line. It might be the reality — but I personally don’t think that it is. I think it’s a cop out, and an understandable one, to duck under not just the second apron but all the way under the tax this summer. Reset the repeater penalties. I’m not mad just disappointed

If you look at the KP and Jrue acquisitions, I think Brad learned something from Danny about big game hunting. I doubt we'll see it happen this summer but I would be surprised if Brad's goal is not to find a *star* at the center spot (or a more traditionally physical PF) to add to his core for 26-27.

I can't prove this obviously and it would come at a price, but that would be my bet.

Ducking the 2nd apron and those restrictions, IMO, is a basketball move. You have to reset those penalties. If we stayed over that, combined with the Jrue trade taking our '29 pick, we basically lose all ability to trade 1sts starting next years. it'd be pretty crippling to team building. Tatum/Brown/White give us too high a floor to ever really "build through the draft" as far as replacing Jrue/Porzingis level players which was going to be needed because of age/injury even if they weren't traded.

As I just mentioned, I think this is kinda sorta the plan. Not to land an impact big guy in the draft necessarily. But to get him one way or another.

SFs struggling to hit the 3 in the pros. Joe's gonna have to adjust.

Again if the owners want to start being cheap and staying under the tax for the next few years you’re going to eventually get a trade request from Tatum. Not sure if they’re ready for that.

Hal14 wrote:My prediction?

The next 3 moves to happen involving the C's

-Horford to sign somewhere..if it's elsewhere, I think Brad will try to make a S&T happen so we don't lose him for nothing

-You look at the SF/PF spots, it's a bit of a logjam. We've got 3 young wings with shooting limitations (Hugo, Minott, Walsh) which is redundant. We've got 2 unathletic SF/PF shooters who are both making $8mil a year or more which is redundant (Niang, Hauser). Plus we have Scheierman competing for wing mins with these guys. It's too much of a logjam. So I expect at least 1 guy to get traded or waived between Walsh, Hauser and Niang.

-Also, Tillman..what's going on there? He's not some young development big. He's a finished product. So it doesn't make sense to keep him here and take development mins away from our other bigs (Queta, Amari, Garza) and take mins at PF away from guys like Minott/Walsh, unless you're absolutely certain he will be a key contributor the next time we are contending for a title in 26-27. So like, what's up with his knee? Is his jumper going to get significantly better? If not, dump him in a trade. So he's not taking up a valuable roster spot.

He's an expiring contract and only making $2.5mil this season. Such a cheap contract, we shouldn't need to attach draft capital to move him. I'm sure there's at least 1 team in the league who could use another big for some added depth..possibly Orlando if they don't resign Moe Wagner or maybe Chicago if they finally trade Vucevic. Lakers need a big too.

The team we trade him to might keep him or might just waive him right afterwards. If they waive him right afterwards, the deal could be similar to the one where we dumped Noah Vonleh on the Spurs:

The Boston Celtics acquired a future conditional second-round pick from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for center/forward Noah Vonleh and cash considerations.

So if we move 1 of those SF/PF guys and we move Tillman, we're down to just 13 roster spots. That 14th spot we could fill either via trade or free agency, with Horford, possibly Dame, possibly Drew Peterson or perhaps some other big who can share mins with Queta/Garza/Amari with the new big either being another young development piece or more of a proven big (on a team friendly contract) who could possibly be our starting C the next time we compete for a title.

I'd be very surprised is Walsh is gone. Teams don't typically move on from a 21 year old wing with size right before a rebuilding year. He's never really gotten a chance with the Celtics, and on top of that his contract this year is VERY cheap at 2.2 million, less than the 2-year-vet min.

They'll try to move Simons, given their salary position they'll try VERY hard to do so. The question is whether he has any value. He's a good player but paid too much for his player type. Niang is almost 100% going to be dumped by the deadline at the latest.

I
