Hyped if Jaylen and Marcus get to join the FIBA team. The relationships formed there are so important for players. If Jaylen and Jayson really are our core, the third member of that tandem after Kemba is probably going to be found playing with them this summer.

For real, though— were not winning a title next year so the fatigue doesn't bother me. Smart-Kemba-Jaylen-Tatum would bond hard core in a foreign country for a few weeks— would love to see a team that actually cares for one another after seeing last years atrocity.

And how do we acquire that player without giving up Jaylen?

I was kind of against the idea of many Celtics playing on the team...but damn you're spot on. I say get all 4 of them on the team now!!

These are the places where young stars bond too and set up future "pairings" like KD and Kyrie. Maybe Tatum buddies up with Myles Turner or Donovan Mitchell and we find a way to woo one of them away from their smaller market teams? Beyond that, the high level competitive nature of that tournament is good for Tatum's development. I'm just happy for Kemba to be a key part of the roster along with Lillard, as he's had few chances to play for a truly talented set of teammates since UConn.

That would be great. They'll be well practiced, too.

I really never understood the whole fatigue thing with athletes. I mean, of course I was nowhere near pro level, I used to play ball for 2-3 hours 5-6 days a week until I was in my 30s. And I wasn't working out on the side. I was definitely boozing it up at night. I was working during the day. At one point I was even in school full time to pursue a 2nd career in my 30s.

Its the longevity of it. Typically the world cup and olympics are two years apart. This year, theyre a little over 10 months. Players are looking at a schedule of:

Word cup in China
Hopefully a long playoff run into june
Olympics in July in Japan

Just a really long stretch of intense basketball with little time off.

Odds of Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker making Team USA increase as players withdraw from FIBA World Cup
By John Karalis | JKaralis@masslive.com | 07-22-19

https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2019/07/odds-of-jayson-tatum-kemba-walker-making-team-usa-increase-as-players-withdraw-from-fiba-world-cup.html
The 18th FIBA World Cup begins on August 31, and will feature the biggest field ever for FIBA’s flagship event. Team USA invited 20 NBA players to its training camp in Las Vegas, which begins August 5 in Las Vegas.

Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker are among the invitees, and the odds of them making the roster continue to rise as players withdraw. Today, Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards announced he won’t participate as he’s awaiting the birth of his second son. Beal is the fifth player to withdraw, along with Anthony Davis, James Harden, CJ McCollum, and Eric Gordon. Kyle Lowry is still on the team, but he had thumb surgery last week, so he may leave as well.

While it’s possible more players will be invited to camp to change these dynamics, Walker feels very likely to make the team considering four of the five withdrawals are backcourt players. Walker and Damian Lillard would be the two remaining point guards if Lowrly withdraws with Donovan Mitchell also available to slide into one of the backcourt positions.

Tatum has some work to do to make the team. Khris Middleton, Tobias Harris, Harrison Barnes, Kyle Kuzma will all be vying for wing spots on the 12-man roster. Middleton and Harris seem to be locks with their ability to drive and shoot, but Tatum will make the competition for that third wing slot a fight.

Again, a few more guys will probably be invited to camp, but if Walker, Lillard, and Mitchell are the only three guards to go to China for the World Cup, there’s a good chance head coach Gregg Popovich will decide to carry a wing-heavy roster for some size and versatility. If that’s the case, the Tatum has a good chance to make the team as well.

Andre Drummond, Brook Lopez, Kevin Love, Paul Millsap, P.J. Tucker, and Myles Turner are the bigs invited to Team USA camp.

The FIBA World Cup runs from August 31 to September 15. The games will be played in eight cities over 16 days and serve as one way Team USA could directly qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Team USA will begin the tournament in Group E with Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Japan.

Well, I like to think given the difference in talent level, the games I played were just as intense while working a full time job and going to school, haha. No, I get it, my brain is just wired from when I used to play everyday for years. I would search out any open gym in the area. Again, of course, the stakes were different, at least to everyone else anyway. I always played like it was a game 7. One of the reasons why I stopped playing in leagues.

Damn, Kemba, Brown and Tatum playing would be fun to watch.. Id love to see that.
Good assessment:

PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

Pop wanted Brown/Smart for Kawhi. Could take Brown just to get inside track before RFA next year. Lowkey tampering. Spurs have caproom next year.

Wow. This is surprising, because according to some of our posters, Marcus Smart was garbage. Go figure.

It’ll be quite some time before Boston can afford a top notch free agent.
