Hayward will be 35 when that deal ends. It's a reasonable contract if he could guarantee health and longevity, which I wouldn't bet on given his injury history.

In my personal calculations I give Hayward about $25M per year for how good of a player he is but then deduct like 30% of it for all the games he'll miss. So imo he's only worth about $18M-$20M per year in actual value to a team. 4/120 is just bad business imo.

Like I said, trading Myles for Gordon when you already had Dipo, Brogdon, and Warren made no sense. Getting any of those players would have been a fleece job by Danny.

Let Horford walk. Got nothing in return.
Let Irving walk. Got nothing in return.
Let Hayward walk. Got nothing in return.

Ainge has set this franchise back for years no matter how hard anyone tries to say how “well” he set up the future.

They got Kemba for letting Kyrie and Horford walk.

The Celtics/Pacers trade negotiations are completely difference conversation than this. If the Pacers offered 4/100 to Gordon, and the Hornets offered 4/120 to him. Who do you think he was going with? This is independent of the trade negotiations. If Hayward was willing to take a 20 million dollar hometown discount, I’m sure trade negotiations would had continued. As much as we have heard Gordon wanting Indy, the dude isn’t walking away from $20 million dollars.

When you make 30mil per year, that amount isn't enough over 4 years to convince me his entire family would not rather be home. For us who make less than six figures, it's like taking 20k less for a better job scenario. It's not out of the realm of possibility.

Yes it is. Are you joking? He got 4 fully guaranteed years at $30 million per year as opposed to $25 million per year with a non-guaranteed 4th year.

themoneyteam2 wrote:Are you guys that dumb to think Ainge didn't want the Indy deal? Hayward was just offered 4 yr 120 vs 4 yr 100. Quite a big difference lol.

Completely separate scenarios here. Just like Horford last year, Celtics would be dumbasses to match that offer

The Pacers would also be idiots to match that offer. Hence the trade talks dying.

And how do we know that Ainge not negotiating didn't drag this out long enough for the Hornets to jump in? If we did a deal right away, the offer may not have come in. If those saying that this deal is too big for Hayward to refuse, if it was there at 6pm on the 20th, he would have taken it. Ainge being stubborn could have blown this in two different ways.

There is nothing Ainge can do except pay Gordo 130 mil that would be ridiculous, his been a train wreck the 3 years he was here. What is supposed do? Point a gun at him and say sign this contract with Indiana?

He could’ve traded him at the deadline when the writing was on the wall, correct?

We’ve known he’s been a trainwreck here. To not flip him then was beyond inexcusable, especially after not dumping Irving the year before. I said it then and I’ll say it again now.

Well ya can't have your cake and fire Danny Ainge too.

That aside, Ainge should have had a inkling Gordon was gone. Move some of those picks for a vet wing, don’t just do the exact same thing as last year.

Right, because having another Zeller on the roster will ease all of our pain.

You didn't answer the post you responded to. You don't know exactly what happened, and you have no idea if Cody Zeller is what we get back.

Heat would have been better off paying him over Iggy. Good deal for Phoenix if Jae can shoot at a reasonable percentage, if not, kinda a meh deal.

If your getting offered 120 or 85 what r u taking?

He got offered over 4 100 from reports i saw last night.

Again, Hayward wanted Indy. Every report said Ainge wanted more than Turner and McDermott. He MASSIVELY **** up. MASSIVELY.

Yes, but if Charlotte then shows up offering 4 years for $120 million, all four years FULLY GUARANTEED, then it changed the game. At that point there was an offer on the table that neither the Celtics or Pacers could/would match (and rightly so), and that Gordon would be a fool to turn down. That's how the cookie crumbles sometimes, but go ahead and blame Ainge for it.
