First half I thought the Celtics looked pretty solid considering it was their first preseason game. Well balanced for sure. Then the game sorta got away from them in the 2nd half.
It's going to be exciting watching how good this team is. Having Rozier, Morris, Smart, Baynes off the bench.....damn. and the starters can all score...gonna be tough to stop once they find their rhythm

I would have liked to see Hayward as the focal point of the unit where he's the only starter playing with bench players. Watching Morris dribble up the floor just to fire a turn around long 2 with 18 seconds on the clock while Hayward stands in the corner hurts a bit.

Even though preseason games are pretty much classified as warm up games I thought last night was a warm up warm up game for our guys just to get a feel for things. I didn’t really see many plays being run just a lot of iso, chucking, and a lotttt of threes.
They’ll obvious play better after each of these games. I’m curious to see how Brad manages the 2nd unit rotation, there’s so much talent but I’m wondering if Stevens will bench 2 of our starting 5 early so they can play with the bench in the beginning of the 2nd and 4th quarter, similar to the warriors on that aspect.

Our be is a better starting 5 than some other teams out there. Rozier/Smart/Morris/Theis and Baynes is a terrific defensive team with some offensive ability.

Exact same thing happened last preseason.

Preseason basketball gets awful quickly. However, first half we saw signs of what this team could be. Definitely was exciting to see Rozier and Morris impact off bench. Kyrie/Rozier/Smart is insanely talented PG rotation. As bad as second half was, it was nice to see Robert Williams out there with real NBA players. The talent is real. He could make an impact defensively by the end of season.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Re: Pre-Season: Celtics @ Hornets – 7:30PM, Fri, Sept. 28, 2018
First time I've ever had seats to a Celtics game within 50 feet of the players!! It was greatly exciting just to see these guys playing in such close proximity -- especially to see Irving & Hayward running and moving freely. Neither shot especially well, but that will come of course. When the shots were falling in the first half, the Celtics looked like they would be as mighty as advertised. The second half didn't go so well. Lots of chucking; not so much connecting. Not many plays or players looking to set up teammates, which is probably to be expected. Lots of garbage time minutes for players who will rarely see the court in regular season. Really liked how Robert Williams looked in his brief time out there. Has a really good feel for the game at this stage of his career. Tries to involve teammates. Decent passer. VERY athletic as advertised (could have had a spectacular alley-oop if the pass had been better). Goes for the boards!! Hayward clearly looked like he has a way to go, but he also looked like he'll get there - and who would have thought that 5 minutes into last season?

williams is a lot more mobile than i thought he was... really quick feet. the game was ugly as sin, to me. i know it’s the first game of pre season, but it was like none of those guys had ever played together. i can’t stand all the threes, but i do understand not wanting to take it to the basket and risk injury in the pre season.

Rozier is the only one who looked really good out there. Tatum and Irving with a terrible shot selection. Brown showed nothing new - catch and shoot 3s with some drives here and there (same as last year). Horford was doing Horford things. Nothing to say about Hayward, he hasn't played for a year. End of the bench was utter trash. Trashusele with that broken shot of his

A few thoughts on the game:
Brad Stevens didn't care about W or L. In fact, by the late game substitutions it almost seemed like he thought a loss might be a good lever to use in preseason.
Hayward moved well, but as expected doesn't have his timing, explosion or full confidence yet. He may be in for a prolonged steady progression back to his old form.
Kyrie was fully dynamic.
Brown was confident and didn't hesitate.
Horford unsurprisingly, was calm and unrushed, treating this practice game just like it was the first of the preseason.
Tatum seemed to take Kobe's advice a little too seriously insofar as some of his shots were a bit forced and out of the offense. No big deal at this point, and probably another good item for the coach to use.
Robert Williams looked very promising. Aside from his length, ability to close, and quickness, the way he never held the ball was great. It did not stick. He made quick sharp decisions with his passes.
Brad Wanamaker missed three layups, which if he had sunk, everyone would be praising him. He usually hits those. That's his game. He'll be fine.
Yabusele showed some clear improvement on both ends. On D he was quicker with his hands, feet, reactions, and positioning. On offense he's finally using his massive lower body to move guys away, resulting one time in a nice post up. I could never understand why he didn't do that before. He's got a ways to go, but the progress is worth noting, as Brad Stevens did post-game (referring to him as "Gersh").
Baynes looked very good. He's ready for the opener.
Morris started last preseason late and injured. This year he's almost set to go.
Rozier is bigger, still confident, and just as quick.
Walt Lemon is a dynamic small guard who has already surpassed Kadeem Allen.
Theis was moving better than expected. That's also a relief. It looks like he'll be back to his old self soon.

Agreed. He is a legit talent of just the type that the C's were lacking.

yup. one minute into the game, they’re already moving the ball a lot better than 2 nights ago.
