I know ball washing when I hear it. This is about the money Lebowski!! They are about to dismantle this thang and live with Tatum dragging a team into the playoffs year after year. Tatum may ask out, but not before he gets all the big money Celts can offer. They’ll bank on him not leaving money on the table for a handful of seasons at least.

I hate it here! Even before it happens!! We had a good thing going! I’m in like flynn, so I just have to go with it. I need it, but I hate money! :(

You can trade brown, I’ll be sad, but I’ll be pissed if they don’t bring back Al!! Al must stay like UD for Miami! Tatum is locked but don’t just get is off everybody I have watched these years!! I made it through Pierce, KG, AB, and smart I don’t want to have to do this anymore! Be loyal to me, forget the money! :/

Edit AGAIN! I went years without a chip, since 06, I forgot what I was missing. After winning last season, I don’t wanna go back! Get all the top players! The dumb Lakers don’t care why should we?! No, we don’t want to do the luxury, but we need to be near it EVERY SEASON!! Max money and Max talent!!
NAME ON THE FRONT OF THE JERSEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(!)

Just win the title this year and I don't really care if KP, Jrue, or both are gone next year tbh

If the 2nd apron is the concern then KP and Tillman are the logical moves. I wouldn’t trade Jrue if this years 1st has to be included.

Moving KP and Tillman bring the payroll to 190mil with 8 under contract.

Bring AL back with a 2yr 8mil with a player option.

I’m ok with bringing Luke back but now I’m at 3yr 18mil

That brings the payroll to 200mil with 10 under contract.

Give Peterson a similar deal to Neems.

Just over 202mil for 11 players

1st rd pick brings it to just over 204mil

Pick up Walsh’s TO

Sign a Maine player to a very minimum regular contract

14 players signed just under 207mil

They'd get under the tax and make it appear that players wanted to move on to other situations. They just need a PR firm that's better than what Dallas has.

I don't get the willingness to give up KP. They could better replace JH or DW and SH IMO.

White can definitely get the best return

Jrue may cost a pick attached

They’ve proven they can win without KP

All depends on matchups (last year was rare), and Al's not gonna be a legit alternative going forward..

To get under the second apron, they need to move only one of Jrue, White or KP without taking any money back. If they have to take back money then they need to move Sam or Payton also.

Jrue makes $32.4 million, White $28.1 and KP $30.7 … KP is the most positionally important but also the most injury prone. While Jrue and Holiday are basically duplicates of each other. Probably we’re looking at losing atleast one of White or Holiday. And then paying #28 and #31 draft picks. Signing a big or two (ideally Luke and/or Al) to a veterans minimum contract and then elevating an existing 2way to a league minimum.

Or we are looking at making more wholesale changes… either moving two of White, KP, Holiday or moving Jaylen Brown…

I’d like to keep KP personally. He gives us the biggest potential impact next year and fulfills the greatest positional need and then he’s not signed after next season…

If we repeat, maybe we get to run it back one year in the 2nd apron, even though Wyc seemed to say that we will not be 2nd apron next year because of the basketball penalties

Here is a cap rundown if we trade Jrue Holiday with nothing come back.

1. Tatum $54.1
2. Brown $53.1
3. Kristaps $30.7
4. D.White $28.1
5. Hauser $10.1
6. Payton $7.7
7. Scheierman $2.7
8. Queta $2.4
9. Walsh $2.2
10. Drew Peterson $1.9
11. Pick #28 $2.7
12. Pick #31 $2
13. Vet minimum $2.2
14. Vet minimum $2.2
———

Roughly adds up to $202 million

2nd apron for next season: $207.8

If we traded Porzingis or White instead and kept Jrue, we’d also be under the 2nd apron

If we’re trading guys to get under the apron, Jaylen’s the next great Atlanta Hawk. Much as I’ve always loved him.

Getting under the second apron is easy enough without doing that. But if their goal is to get under the tax while getting something substantial in return, yeah, JB or a combo of KP/White/Jrue would need to go.

Dumping Jrue, Al and Luke is a LOT.

That said, perhaps Al would play for the vet min. Luke surely won't.

Per Luke & Al, the league subsidizes some of a veterans minimum so the full amount doesnt count towards the salary cap.
So if Al was re-signed at a minimum, Al would actually make like $3.4 million but only $2.2 would count against the cap.
Same principle would apply to Luke Kornet but the number would be lower because the player's salary is based on the player's years of service.

This season Luke actually makes $2.8 million but only $2.01 counts against the cap, including 2nd apron
this is because the union bargained to try to keep jobs for vets rather than those end-of-bench roster spots going to undrafted rookie types who would play for any amount for the chance at an NBA career

Purely from a basketball point of view, you could replace Sam the easiest. But we'll have to shed more money than that.

I don't see a pure salary dump no matter who is going out. I think we'll be looking for a younger athletic big and a wing defender this summer. We need to get more athletic off the bench. Also, Queta is not the future at the 5.

I forget who first proposed it, although I lean to thinking it was the league. Either way, it was a nice moment in labor relations. Somebody had the idea; both sides quickly judged it to be a win-win; neither seemed to muck up the negotiations by trying to get an unrelated concession from the deal.

Horford re-signing for the minimum?

Several years back, fans here were saying they could get him to give a big hometown discount.

Instead he signed a big contract with the 76ers.

He's obviously not producing as much as back in 2018-19, the last season with the Celtics before he signed that contract with the Sixers.

But he's still playing about the same number of minutes, taking more 3s. His efficiency is a bit down compared to last season but he's still shooting 35.8% from 3 on 5 attempts per game. Hard to ask more from a stretch 5, assuming he defends and rebounds decently too. He's making $9.5 million this season. So he'd go down $2-3 million to help out the team, which just sold for $6.1 billion?

Second apron and repeater luxury taxes are not his problems. Owners have to figure them out.

Our new soon to be owner obviously hasn't done anything for Boston as of yet. But listening to him speak does Give me all the good vibes that I wish a new owner would have.

Between our new owner and Brad Stevens, it should be a great 1 .. 2 punch

I was definitely down on Al in the middle of the year.. His age seemed to catch up with him. But for whatever reason, he seems so much more. Rejuvenated as of late and playing quite well.

Getting Al for the vet-minimum would be a steal.. Although my stance has not changed that he should not be playing as many minutes throughout the season.. Keeping him fresh and on ice with no more than 20 min max next season.
