The thing is, he is criminally underrated by Celtics fans right now.

See the thing is the stats for the most part say just the opposite - and we had a pretty much massive argument about this the entire year. I think the 'Ray isn't really all that great as a player.' people feel vindicated for the most part..

This is probably a part of why he left - he wants to prove people like me wrong and kinda cherry picked the best place to do it. That's fine - but I still Jason Terry is going to be better for us then Ray was last year.

If you compare the same lineup with and without Bradley - its hugely better with Bradley. Does that mean Bradley is great or Ray is overrated. I think its a bit of both...

That being said he is going to look nice in Miami as its got to be nice playing with a guy like Lebron who can defend, rebound, and pass for three guys...

The proof is in the pudding so to speak - look for our offense staistically to be quite improved with Ray gone. For us this really is a positive move. Weirdly its a going to be a win for Miami as well. It's a win win deal - too bad we have to go through Miami to make the finals.

This is mean spirited sure - but I like us to potentially keep Sasha around and have him smack Ray around a bit like Wally did to Ray back in the championship run there. We were all like can't you beat Wally friggn Scerbiak (sp?) and he really couldn't seem too..

That would be some poetic justice.. Only this time around we would beat Miami.

What's he gonna prove? That he can help a winner be a presumably better winner?

I realize he's not on the team anymore and happier day by day that he's not, but in terms of being a boston celtic fan I'm not gonna let it go ever, but thanks for the advice. Why waste your time posting stuff like that if you've already moved on?

Because it gets annoying having to read "Traitor!!! Judas!!! Benedict Allen!!!!" over and over again. It's completely tiresome, not to mention it makes Celtic fans look bad.

Not to knock you but you are the one that clicked on the Ray Allen discussion link. Clearly you know how most of the fans on here feel about his departure. If stuff like this was posted on the General Board, in a thread about another player, then you'd have a point about the Ray Allen hate being too much but that's more or less what this entire thread has been.

On topic, I can't decide if he looked sad at the press conference or if he looked smug. Whenever they talked about Boston, specifically Pierce and Garnett it seemed like his voice cracked and he had to clean stuff out of his eye but then other times, like telling the Pat Riley stories he sounded like a school boy. Either way, what struck me the hardest was that a guy of Ray Allen's caliber and experience got sweet talked into taking less money and burn his bridges in Boston by Pat Riley. The guy must be a hell of a speaker.

I get reallllly tired of people telling us how to feel.

We have every right to be upset with Ray Allen for leaving.... Just like he has the right to leave.

So annoying. WHY CANT WE BE UPSET?

Well, all that Trade talk over the years, the rift with Rondo, and whatever else. He did burn us. No warning. But hey, hasta la vista! -- Thanks for the years. You're a Legend.
You're the Enemy now.

I am sure Riley is a great talker and Miami said most of the right things which quite frankly is very easy to do in a situation like that but I really highly doubt Riley was that much of a factor in the end. Ray said he decided the next day on a neutral court and it appears he was going to sign with Boston if the Celtics overpaid him...

Ray pretty much knew what he was doing and if he was going to leave for the Heat, he pretty much did it in the right way.

I think it was hard for Ray to accept possibly no longer being a top 7 player on a team that may have been legitimate championship contender next year but hadn't won the title since 2008.

I think if he was honest with himself and he probably was, he realized that he could live with the worst realistic case for him in Miami. He only plays 15 mpg and just does ok on uncontested jumpers. That was probably a better situation in his mind that not getting along great with Rondo and being the fourth best guard on the team. And his physical limitations no longer being a real great fit for the Celtics at least in a major role but working better with the Heat because of Lebron's ability to attract double teams and pass the ball to any shooter on the court.

Celtic fans should certainly applaud Ray when he returns but I don't think his number should be retired. And it might have looked bad but I don't think his number should have been retired with the Celtics even if he had stayed but it would have been a tougher decision to leave out one member of the 2nd Celtics Big 3.

He is hoping the C's do poorly as well. Its schendrenfruade or however you spell it. I am not going to wiki it... Ya know your g/f leaves you for a rich dude and you are still single. She takes fake pity on you. Haha. Oh so and so your a great guy you will find someone <snicker>. That's Ray's secret revenge 'hope" IMHO.

I don't understand why so many Celtics fans are mad that this guy is gone. Frankly, I'm happy. I never though the guy was as good as advertised and he's had just as many games in the playoffs the last few years that he hasn't delivered then he has. Dude was terribly inconsistent when the games mattered the last few years. Frankly, so has Paul Pierce. KG and Rondo have been the two most consistent players in the playoffs the past few years.

When Paul is "on" he is the best player we got, but sometimes he struggles bad. However, Ray was clearly the 4th guy on the list and it wasn't even close. The guy is going to be a 37 year old shooting guard who can't create his own shot and needs screens set relentlessly just to get his shots off.

Let the guy go to Miami and let's move on. This guy isn't good enough anymore to get so upset about. Never really liked the guy anyway. Always thought he was a "one trick pony".

Gary Tanguay is a tool. Guy think he is a somebody. Clown. And Donny Marshall too. Love how Rondo is always getting bashed. Name me ONE TEAM in their right minds who would keep an aging 37 year-old shooting guard and trade a 26 year-old stud PG. These guys crack me up. Reminds me of the idiot Boston media tools who were in Drew Bledsoe's hip pocket and bashed Brady so they could keep Drew on their good side.

Repeat after me.......... Ray Allen is a 37 year-old shooting guard. 37-year old SHOOTING GUARD. Enuff with this guy already.

He's not your normal 37 year old, this guy stays in tremendous shape throughout the season, preparation before the game is legendary. He's also a very clutch player, how many times did he deliver the dagger shot in five years here? This all being said, the Heat is paying him cheap money for 3 years, if it doesn't work I'd assume that they would just have him retire and give him a front office job. So sad that Riley wants the guy to be known as a "Heat Legend".

Is there a possible way to get him fired? Him and Marshall? I mean maybe fans write a letter in which they voice their dissatisfaction with Marshall/Tanguay, and basically say they are both clueless..
Good assessment:

I bet Tanguays source is Donny. Him and Donny work a lot together, and Ray and Donny play golf frequently. Donny is also friends with Ray. I believe Tanguay. (i don't know how to spell his name)

That seems very likely.. It's not exactly shocking that an older OCD player won't get along with a young smart alec type.. Ray has an ego but it can be bruised. KG and Paul would just laugh off Rondo most of the time, IMHO.

100% TRUE

I think KG/Pierce do have arguments with Rondo, as I'm sure most people do. Rajon's nothing if not "vocal". I always here his voice cutting through the crowd noise. He's sneaky about it but in a lot of ways Rondo is just as vocal (and confrontational) as KG is in his curse spittle laden manner of speaking.

The difference between Pierce/KG is they have impeccable swagger whereas Ray is more susceptible to getting harried and frazzled (except of course when he's lining up a three ball). I think this Rondo-Ray thing is a result of Rondo probably out-thinking and outsmarting (and generally embarrassing Ray by calling out his mental errors).

Pierce is definitely laughing it off (and I think Sullinger is this way). KG and Rondo probably talked things over crazy loud and excitedly and then just kick back and play cards. And you know Pierce is sippin on some juice and gambling too. I think Pierce/KG/Rondo is going to be tight and without that Ray-Rondo nonsense the team will be even closer.

That will help tremendously with setting a positive tone for the young guns.

I love how in his interview he mentioned the whole contact KG thing and KG replied by saying "Danny will do what it takes to keep you here" and Ray said "we'll see"....what a bunch of bull-- I wish a reporter had called Ray out on this and asked him why he was demanding 3/27 from Boston but was happy with 3/9.5 from the Heat...that just shows a bad faith in the entire process from the beginning, someone should have asked him why Ray NEEDED more money from Boston. What a joke.
Damn

Return to Boston Celtics
