Exactly. I’m more willing to believe the delay over the last 24 hours was Gordon trying to get the Pacers (or even to stay with the Celtics) to increase their offer. Neither bit.

I swear I'm not making excuses for Danny. If it comes out that Danny played hardball and Charlotte came out of nowhere at the 11th hour with this huge contract, then I agree it's on Danny for not jumping on Indy deal earlier and preventing that from happening. But if it comes out that Charlotte had this offer out there, and it's not on Danny or Indy or anyone else. It's on Jordan and Hayward.

I would be outraged if Danny matched 4/120 for Gordon Hayward at this point. That would be terrible for us long term.

Or, there was no path for indy to offer that much cuz ainge refused to play ball.

There is reporting that Ainge was playing hardball. There is reporting that Hayward wanted Indy. There is not reporting that Indy didnt make an acceptable offer to Hayward.

You're insane if you're mad the Celtics didn't offer him that. This is Horford 2.0 where the board was in shambles after he signed with Philly.

That contract is absurd, but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that we're better off losing him for nothing.

99% of people were thrilled at getting Turner and McDermott. Danny is just different.

But this is how you lose a championship.

Probably the best thing the Celtics can do is help charlotte clear the 10m and get a TPE.

Hard to see this squad competing anytime soon with other elite teams just getting better in the off-season.

If Danny had an offer on the table for Turner and McDermott, he blew it. Getting nothing out of this is inexcusable.

I mean, have your fun, obviously. But we do not know, and probably never will know, what the exact offer was. For all we know IND was trying to dump salary on us that would put us into the tax, necessitating us to give away more value to move that salary, and they felt there just wasn't enough value there.

Or not. But you know everyone is going to act like they suddenly know for sure exactly what the offer was.


And even that's assuming Hayward wasn't always just going to take the largest dollar value he could find.

There was no simple deal to be made. Hayward got an offer of 30 million per year. Clearly neither Pritchard nor Ainge were interested in that kind of money.

But when was that offer presented? That's what we need to find out.

The Pacers would also be idiots to match that offer. Hence the trade talks dying.

And how do we know that Ainge not negotiating didn't drag this out long enough for the Hornets to jump in? If we did a deal right away, the offer may not have come in. If those saying that this deal is too big for Hayward to refuse, if it was there at 6pm on the 20th, he would have taken it. Ainge being stubborn could have blown this in two different ways.

We don’t know, but teams usually have their top offers out to players within a minute of FA. I’m willing to bet Gordon had this offer in his hands at 6:01 PM yesterday from the Hornets. Teams don’t wait a full day to finally make their offers, especially with their top targets. Considering the money Gordon got, the Hornets likely had him as a number 1 priority.

Then he was considering the hometown discount if that's the case.

If Gordon simply chose Charlotte for the money there's really nothing Ainge could have done about it.

But if there was really a Turner deal on the table waiting for Ainge to agree to it and he didn't, he sucked this up super hard.
