They don't play him on back to backs apparently.

This seems nuts? Marks is definitely looking to trade Brook.

no... they just have an insane approach to this stuff. analytics not just on the court but with how players are treated from a physical standpoint. nets players do 1/3 of their training at home with nets trainers making house calls. the nets staff is absurdly huge. not sure how much good it will or wont do, but thats their approach... more on the lopez benching:

NY Post wrote:“This doesn’t mean he won’t play back-to-backs for the rest of the year,” Atkinson said. “We take each back-to-back, take each portion of the schedule and look at it and do what’s best for him and best for the team. … We’re all on board with this. He’s on board, I’m on board, the performance team, everybody.

“We’re thinking long-term, big-picture. Soon enough, he’ll be at his normal minutes.”

In watching the game I never took Brook not playing much as a benching. Atkinson is a disciple of Budenholzer who is a disciple of Popovich. They know Tim Duncan would take a seat in his prime if he was having a bad game and Pop thought he could win with someone else. Same goes for the second game of back-to-backs which has Popovich written all over it.
With that said I'm not sure Lopez fits their bigger picture, and since the Nets aren't making the playoffs they get the most value in future young assets now. This may also play into having Lopez off on back-to-backs to see how the team plays without him.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

I'd agree with all of that. I dont think Lopez is a great fit. He is also one of those guys where you see 21/7/2 in the box score but the impact he has doesnt match that. Lopez is talented but you really need the perfect 3 or 4 guys around him to make it work... since from a team sense he does so much that makes it hard to win consistently. Defensively he blocks shots and he is big but he cant switch onto smalls or anyone athletic and in the pick and roll he cant trap or show and recover. its the main reason we have consistently been at the bottom of the league defending threes, cause the wings need to impede the roll man leaving wing shooters open.

Anyhow, long story short lopez is going to need to be a beast in 22-25 minutes or probably end up traded. the fact that we can look just as good on both ends vs miluwakee/boston with him out/not contributing alot kind of confitms that even in a small sample.

I think the nets would be best moving lopez for a rondo like return... where on paper the returns dont look great but we end up with a 2 way player (something we have very few of) and a mid first round pick. something like clint capella and a first or john henson and a first (not that those work but that kind of player/pick)

i think the nets are building a strong base. I like what i see in kenny and overall it seems a discipllined approach. I have the nets at 24 wins this year. i think maybe that gets to 28-30 with effort/coaching. who knows. the road form here is longer, but i think moving lopez would be a step in the right direction

I'm a little worried the Nets trade brook for a player who helps them more than brook. Their coach seems like he is establishing a solid culture there as well which is bad news for us. I still don't see enough talent to finish better than 13th or maybe 12th in the east but it doesn't look like the dumpster fire it was last year.

Like I said in July, Nets will be bad for the next couple of years but they're on the right track. They'll be Hawks-like team in the near future. Smart analytical team without any bad contracts that plays Spurs-ian style of basketball.

You can already see the step forward. They fight every night. They signed a bunch of shooters, they even set a record in 3s taken in preseason. No more 20 seconds of trying to post-up dudes. I mean, even Brook is taking and making 3s now.

Luckily for us, I doubt it will happen before we get those picks.

So how many wins do the Nets need to have before the end of November before we start getting concerned about the value of that pick??? They'll have played 17 games before December. I say if they reach 6-7 wins before then, Ainge might have to start listening a little more closely to other teams.

my heart breaks with every single win, and is mended with 2 losses. so if the get to 6-11 after 17 games...well that starts to be a problem.

I hear you. I'm not sure I want to ride this roller coaster all season. If that pick turns out to be 8th or 9th.....ugh.

I agree. At the same time though getting James Young Jaylen Brown the 8th pick in 2017 and say the 10th in 2018 is a haul for KG and Pierce. The Nets will be better than people think. Even if they aren't Ainge will not make the right pick.

Granted Brown looks better than Uncle Jeff did at his age but I'm not sure he will ever become a decent shooter.
