Think about it this way:

After extending Jrue, will they shell out almost $30 M. for White?

$7.5 M. average salary is still not a lot to acquire anything of quality, especially when you can't aggregate up
contracts when over the 2nd Apron.

If White is back to being a 3rd guard, they might be better using his value and salary to acquire a young, quality Big
and have Pritch as the 3rd guard.

Trading White, because of his value and salary, opens up a lot more possibilities for bringing in, someone who can have an
impact.

White isn't going anywhere. Certainly not to make room for Pritchard.

Good for Payton. He got an extension and it seems like a fair deal in light of the NBA economic climate. It's quite a bit for a team that is already in big with contracts, but then again, the Celtics brass are all in this year, so giving Payton a show of confidence this way is a great way to allow him to focus on the game now and developing his role as a reserve.

Then again, again, maybe it will end up as contract ballast in a later trade. Who knows? For now, the team is really focused on taking care of business and letting the players focus on the court activities. Personally, I think Pritchard is going to have at least a few big moments this year in addition to just being a solid vet presence now (he's the third longest tenured Celtic) and we'll overall be happy with this extension.

I was totally wrong on PP getting traded before getting extended.

Still get used to the new ownership mantra of LET IT RAAAIINN BI$Che$$

This is good business as long as it’s an extremely tradable contract, which it seems to be. So: hooray. Now extend White to stay in BOS please!

Good for the kid. He's worked hard; been patient. After a somewhat tough last season this has been an extremely confidence-boosting off-season. Gets tapped for the USA Select team. Survives all the transition of the off-season and caps it off with the security of the new deal I imagine that he was at least a little worried about getting. 4/30M is fair, resets his trade value, ensures that he will likely remain in Boston for at least 2 more years and gives Brad another asset.

For Brad, just another capper to a magnificent off-season. And for Wyc, I continue to not even recognize this man right now. This is the exact opposite effect I thought the new CBA would have on him. But I am here for all of it.

I love this for both sides. Strategic overpay by Brad which locks in a decent roleplayer and gives him a salary that could be used in trades down the line, both things that will pay dividends as a team over the 2nd apron.

This hopefully squashes most of the Pritchard drama, even if he's still not going to get the kind of minutes he wants.

I also put this in the other thread about him, but I think his splits show you the kind of player he could be. Looking the last two years, his stats from games he's only playing single digit minutes really mess with his averages.

0-9 minutes (11% of his overall minutes): FG: 29% and 3PT: 26%
10+ minutes (89% of his overall minutes): FG: 44% and 3PT: 41%

Given that we're still likely to only want him playing 8-15 minutes a game, it might still be a problem that he seems to need more minutes to find his groove, but I do think it's positive that it shows he can play at this level. It's just about consistency regardless of playing time.

It's low enough money that it's never going to be a disaster and it also leaves plenty of upside room if he can continue to develop and turn into a regular contributor for us.

Congrats to Pritchard for securing his second contract. For the Celtics they get to keep a really good shooter long term in what is increasingly a shooter's league. Everybody wins. Now get that White extension done.

Someone that can have impact, near d whites salary, like for example... Derrick White.

He was patient ad professional and it paid off. Good for him. I expect decent minutes for him this season and stat wise, it should be his best.

Actually better than White, since you'll have First Round Picks to package with him.

I also think we will see more from Pritchard than just shooting. He is a savvy, competitive player, and his confidence must be sky high. I expect a lot from him, and that he will deliver the goods. Very happy with his signing.
