We don’t know what went on behind the scenes. That’s why I’m not saying fire Ainge.

Exactly. I’m more willing to believe the delay over the last 24 hours was Gordon trying to get the Pacers (or even to stay with the Celtics) to increase their offer. Neither bit.

I’m actually more confused why people aren’t seeing this. Gordon isn’t walking away from $20 million. Most players don’t

People aren't seeing it cause emotions are running high. Give it a few days.

I swear I'm not making excuses for Danny. If it comes out that Danny played hardball and Charlotte came out of nowhere at the 11th hour with this huge contract, then I agree it's on Danny for not jumping on Indy deal earlier and preventing that from happening. But if it comes out that Charlotte had this offer out there, and it's not on Danny or Indy or anyone else. It's on Jordan and Hayward.

I would be outraged if Danny matched 4/120 for Gordon Hayward at this point. That would be terrible for us long term.

Or, there was no path for indy to offer that much cuz ainge refused to play ball.

There is reporting that Ainge was playing hardball. There is reporting that Hayward wanted Indy. There is not reporting that Indy didnt make an acceptable offer to Hayward.

That seems extremely unlikely. If Indy made it clear to Hayward they would offer 4/120, Danny is not a fool; he'd 100% know that he's going to be losing Hayward at that point and would have zero leverage so he'd get something for him over nothing. There's a chance Danny knew Charlotte offered 4/120 yesterday, in which case yes this is on Danny as -- though it is a safe assumption to assume Hayward would take a discount to go to Indy -- it's not a foregone conclusion that he wouldn't accept Charlotte's massive offer. That would be hubris on Danny's part.

Turner is a shot blocker and can make shots. Doug is solid role player

It wasn't up to Boston it was up to Hayward he took the 30 mil like he should.

There’s always a possibility that Hayward was negotiating with Indy and they wouldn’t come up high enough to a number that he liked so he opted for Charlotte

Everyone on here calling for Ainge to be fired have ZERO knowledge of the negotiations with the Pacers, what or who was offered. I didn’t see one insider post that CHA was even remotely a possibility. If MJ wants to come out of left field and overpay for a dude who hasn’t played more than a half season of basketball in the last 3 years, well than good for him. If Ainge gave him that deal you all would have lit every Chipotle in Boston on fire. So calm down and see where we go.

You're insane if you're mad the Celtics didn't offer him that. This is Horford 2.0 where the board was in shambles after he signed with Philly.

It’s not about the deal he got. The fact that it got to a point where Hayward walked out the door for nothing is what’s so flustering. This team has zero to show for these max contract guys. They were once in better shape than any team in the league with two open max slots, the two Jays, and high valued picks. Except for the two Jays all that is gone and you don’t even have one vet talent on the bench to show for it.

They could do flat 30M per year.

Yeah, or descending even and he doesn't take much of a hit at all. Start at $32M and we get about $17M tpe.
I don't see anyone else that can make up $10M difference they'd be willing to send us.

Why is everyone assuming it was Ainge that was holding up the deal with the Pacers.

How do we know that Charlotte didn’t present that ridiculous offer to Hayward and his agent last night?

Maybe it was Hayward that was holding up this deal because his first choice was Indy. And the Charlotte offer was too good to pass up and he needed time to decide with his family. Indy can wait for Gordon and Robyn for a few more years. He can retire with more money.

There was no simple deal to be made. Hayward got an offer of 30 million per year. Clearly neither Pritchard nor Ainge were interested in that kind of money.

But when was that offer presented? That's what we need to find out.

We will likely never know. The Hornets had been mentioned in passing in some tweet this past week, but I don't remember any other reports anywhere.
