Grant slowly nudging his way into the playoff rotation with his recent good stretch of play. He's already learning to do all the little things that help a team win (or at the very least, not hurt the team). Keeping on hitting open threes will solidify his position.

If healthy, we may have 7.75-8.35 reliable guys for the playoffs.

Grant Williams is coming along nicely. Kid is improving all the time.
He'll most likely be in the Playoff Rotation.

Now that we can calm down after the trade deadline, I'm still not seeing a roster problem other than at center.

Tatum/Hayward/Brown/Smart/Walker is the best collection of perimeter players east of California -- even if Raptor or Net fans disagree -- and I'm not so sure that any California teams are ahead either. Romeo is a promising addition to the crew.

Any issue is at center or C/PF. Ainge has made a bunch of good additions at the position(s) in recent years -- Horford, Baynes, Theis, Rob Williams, Kanter, Grant, and Tacko. But Horford and Baynes went away again, Theis and Rob Williams have durability and/or long-minutes issues, Kanter for financial reasons may not choose to stick around, and Tacko is far from being ready, if he'll ever be. That's where more team-building success is still needed.

And since both Grant and Theis seem like they could play at PF next to centers, the shortfall -- as it were -- is really at C.

If only there was a C out there who can protect the rim, aligns with JT/JB age, on a reasonable contract, who could be had for a reasonable collection of our assets.

Oh wait! We just let Atlanta trade for him instead

Per KD, Kyrie "didn't like where his situation was at".

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/257124/Kevin-Durant-Decided-To-Leave-Warriors-Halfway-Through-18-19-Season
“I’ve been having conversations with Kyrie for the last two years,” Durant said. “Not even about playing together, as just brothers. We didn’t plan on playing together. We played against each other in my second year with the Warriors and we had a mutual friend and we just bonded together and we bonded on life in general ... and basketball in general, that just formed over time.

“He didn’t like where his situation was at and me either in Golden State. And just to see how this will work. Let’s try it out. And DJ wanted to play with us and be that center for us that can hold it down and play for something really, play for a team that’s going somewhere and not just bouncing around the league. We knew he’d be a vital piece for us going forward, not just as a star, but being a good teammate. So it just worked out.”

The DJ stuff when those two talk about him is usually hilarious. They talk like he's Jokic.

They ARE talented scorers. So it's a good thing that their basketball judgment is otherwise so flawed that they want to play with him. :)

LOL at Kemba and Enes.

Now I'm wondering what my answer is. Early candidates include the Habanera (Carmen's first aria), "Lord, It's Hard to be Humble", "Let It Be", and the opening bars of the Mendelsohn Violin Concerto.

This is about the Rockets and their doubling down on their small/skillball, but this also applies to our situation. I could argue that Theis, while not as good a rebounder, is more skilled than PJ Tucker or Danuel House. While we don't have a top 5 player like Harden, Kemba/Brown/Tatum/Hayward is as good as it gets for a foursome in the league.

Notice Ojeleye's number, too - for a vet minimum rotation player who can guard 3-5, he'll be getting a pay raise after next season if he keeps it up..

No bigger Semi basher than me. It still pains me to see his on/off numbers - he can really kill the offensive flow when he is out there. However, he is becoming a legit 3 and D guy. He’s still not where I want him to be but given his work ethic, his toughness and his improving 3 pt. shot.....whose to say where his game could be in 2 years? Gotta say I’m impressed with Brad’s persistence with guys like Smart and Semi. Smart as a high pick and a dirt dog is easy to understand....but players like Semi get bounced all the time.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

He's not lying tho. These stats are impressive considering how many injuries we've had.
Good assessment:

PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

Kemba has been a bit iffy lately hope he has a big game sooner or later.

Return to Boston Celtics
