Re: Welcome Derrick White
White’s really fantastic as a starter for us. I don’t think he’s as valuable off the bench but when he starts and Marcus is in PG mode we have a lot more movement and spacing.
Really has just had a great year all around and that shot went from being almost unshootable to money in less than a year. Pretty remarkable

Agreed. Moving into even next year, you can no longer take him out of the starting lineup. We're simply a better team when Derrick White is in the game.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

For sure. I can’t say I don’t want to start Rob but I do think he provides the same impact off the bench as he does starting, and that probably preserves him a little better as well. Derrick is clearly just a better starter than reserve for us.
Not sure if that’s a mental thing for some players or it just fits the roster better but it makes sense here if Rob is the same impact player either way.

As long as he makes all-defense team I'll be happy. I figure the only guards who have a shot are white, Jrue, Caruso, Bridges and Smart. 5 guys for 4 spots..
I figure smart will be the odd man out, since he only played in 61 games.
I'd go white and jrue on the 1st team. caruso and bridges on the 2nd team.
Bridges is more of a forward. Dillon Brooks might be voted in over Smart. Dort and Quickley will also get votes.
Agreed but last season he was voted in as a guard.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Legit one of the worst in our franchise’s history. ONLY a championship with him as a major reason for winning would make this palatable. We’re going to feel the ramifications of this for a decade
BostonCouchGM wrote:I don't know how anyone can watch him get cooked, allowing guys to blow by him to the basket multiple times a game, and still claim he should be part of the DPOY conversation. We truly do have the biggest homers in this fanbase. He's a solid and smart defender but not a great one.
As to his effectiveness this season, he's literally getting wide open threes like everyone else who has played his role but the difference is, his shot has been money THIS season. But it wasn't last season when he was shooting 31% from three. Was that his outlier season? Is this an outlier season? Or is he most likely somewhere in the middle where he's resided his other seasons around 35% which is average? He's a bad shooting slump away from being unplayable in the playoffs btw. Better hope it doesn't happen.

Anybody that had a full blown meltdown over trading a protected future first for this guy has a lower BBIQ than Jaylen Brown.

is it really that hard to give one of our player's a shoutout, without taking a sh*t on one of our other players?

I'm not looking for takes on White, I have had many horrible ones, but it's great that people were wrong about him!

More common here amongst friends I would say, but yep. If you're being polite to someone, you probably don't like them much.

Not sure how I found myself on the Celtics board, but damn I'm envious. I thought the Piston's board was pretty active, all things considered, but it's not even close. 750+ on a single player? I wish.
Since I'm here, I might as well post something on topic. I thought White always had a decent 3pt shot when he was in San Antonio, it was just on low volume wasn't it? I was unaware it was an issue for the Celtics.
Derrick White seems like one of those guys that doesn't really stand out on bad teams, but he's fit in perfectly in Boston in the games I've watched. I would think any playoff team would love to have him. I know the Nuggets would love to have him. Plus defender, moves the ball well, capable shooter, etc. In San Antonio he was able to create his own shot to an extent, but he definitely has limits.
Would I be way off base to compare his skillset and career arc to George Hill?
Alright, this isn't my turf, but I'm rooting for you guys to win the East over Milwaukee!
Cheers.
