Completely OT for this thread, but not really Celtics related but...
Do you guys think a 1-3-1 is too complicated for 3rd-6th grade?
My son's school does youth basketball weird. K-2nd grade play against each other in a league, then 3rd-6th grade plays against each other in another league. For the 3rd-6th grade the 5th and 6th graders are only boys who tried out for the school's team for their grade and didn't make it so not as skilled 5th and 6th graders. I say it's weird because a 3rd grader going against a 6th grader isn't ideal size wise, and honestly doesn't help the 6th grader to improve going against the younger kids so his chances of making the 7th grade team if he wanted to try again don't exactly go up. It is what it is as I'm not changing schools lol.
Last year we started with just pick and rolls but got away to me just yelling out mismatches and winning with transition baskets off our defense as we were really good defensively against other teams pick and rolls especially. I was hoping the 1-3-1 would help to involve more of the kids regardless of skill level and teach them more about actually seeing the game while also helping them to learn more play structure, but I'm worried it's too complicated for 3rd graders with little experience (my son is in 4th grade for reference and he gets it and is ready to go). He plays in another league as well that's much more competitive, but of course he wants to play in the school league too because of school pride and all that and his friends play there.
