Good point. Can Smart even shoot free throws? If not, pathetic.

You'd think at least Crowder and Wright would be happy at a chance to earn minutes and money..

""I've been fortunate enough to play for future Hall of Famers and great teams and a great coach in Doc Rivers. And to get back to that situation and be able to play with future Hall of Famers and a great coach and a team that's ready to contend for a title, I'm fired up. I'm ready to go."

He's up there talking about how he played for a great coach in Doc Rivers and now he's happy to be playing for a great coach again in Rick Carlisle. Really, bro? I'm not saying Stevens is a great NBA coach but nobody can convince me that that comment wasn't a little shot at Stevens. Was he mad because Stevens benched him in the Washington game a week ago? Stevens looked like he went out of his way to win Rondo over so not sure what Rondo's beef would be. Just seems like some things are better left not said. Rubbed me the wrong way.

I think you're really reading too much into this and overreacting with this.

I watched the whole press conference and I couldn't see a single sign that he's angry about anything. On this particular comment I believe the question was to compare 2008 Celtics and todays Mavericks. He explicitly talked about contending teams.

Brad's a happy guy right now. No question. His job just got *worlds* easier!

I'm sure it was discussed at length already but Jackie Mac's article http://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/_/i ... ted-legacy
talks about how Rondo always looks like he needs a hug and always has to be right (not a good one-two combo) and cracks him for lack of buy-in to the rebuild, including his lack of defensive effort. The top Boston-related post underneath Jackie's article kills me: " Can't wait to see the look on the faces of Ellis and Parsons while they watch Rondo dribble for 20 seconds looking for the perfect pass to pump up his assist numbers." I'll miss the fancy passes, and the good old days, when he had the potential to be a HOF Celtic - but this is a good time for a breakup.

Luckily, it's not our problem anymore. between the lines the tension was there. It shouldn't come as any surprise to anybody who knows that Rondo once tried to fist fight Doc Rivers.

It's amazing what the media can cover up about celebrity personalities behind the scene. Divas gonna diva.

I'm not that sad anymore. Rondo looks very excited unlike Pierce who looked horrible and really depressed after being traded. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that Rondo is excited and happy that he is contending again.

It also makes it easier for us fans to move on :)

In their defense they've been called a pile of crap/poo-poop platter by everyone except their grandmothers for the last 24 hours.

Their is a picture of them all laughing on twitter #celtics.

When they asked what he can bring to Dallas, Rondo talked a lot about how 'it's his job as a point guard to make it easier for guys' - get them the ball in their spots, make certain reads, 'make it easier for Tyson' etc. Seriously: F that. Play basketball. The whole game. There's five guys out there. Point guard does not = quarterback; you don't get a special helmet.

I don't see anything wrong with what Rondo said. Just wish him the best and move on. No need to hold ill feelings.

That is the point guard's primary job, though.

I don't think so in the modern game at least since first of all, defense is half of the game and assists without good floor spacing and ball protection/minimizing turnovers I just do not think are worth that much. The Spurs/Heat have shown how important it is to move the ball and not worry about who gets the assist.

Without going Magic Johnson on you since he was obviously not a typical PG size, when I think of excellent PGs, Billups and Stockton come to mind and only one of those two had really high assistant numbers. Sure Stockton all time leader in assists but he was a very good shooter that kept defenses very honest everywhere on the court. Billups not as much of an assist guy but excellent shooter that did not need to dominate the ball to be a big difference maker. Joe Dumars still might have a job if he did not trade Billups.

This all being said, I do not blame Rondo for saying what he did and highlighting his strengths. One the test for him will be whether he can start playing defense at a higher level like he once did earlier in his career. In addition, the Mavs will actually be a test of what Rondo means to a high powered offense since right now they are the best offense in the league according to some stats at least. Defensively is where Rondo theoretically could make the most difference since the WC is obviously loaded at PG and really containing players like Paul/Curry/Westbrook/Parker is obviously important to the Mavs success.

Stevens has done jacksquat at the NBA level and Rondo has played few games under him. Why is he obligated to compliment him?
