I understand your logic, but then you have to start somewhere and it is likely not going to be say KD without somebody in the fold. I have to be honest that I am lukewarm at best with Horford. I don't really see the attraction. But if you sign him near the MAX and it brings in KD, because he loves him, I'm all in. I like Love better than I do Horford - but if you get Horford without burning that pick and you attract somebody else, I'd rather do that.
So the Ray Allen part to me, is critical to get the process going. You need to pick that player with some insight that is happening behind closed doors as to who would want to play with what players.
I don't see Horford being that piece who brings Durant to Boston. How is Horford any different than Ibaka, pretty much the same player. The piece who could lure Durant into coming to Boston would have to be a top 10 player.

As a Nets fan I am facing down the same barrel and probably similar result, just a different way of getting there.
