Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
Nesmith finally started getting double digit in minutes consistently about 10 games ago, with a career high 30 minutes in one game. He has always played hard with defense and hustle. he has shown he is far more than just a "Shooter", but in his last 10 games with consistent minutes, he is shooting 60% and 55% from FG and 3pts.
Don't have stats, but willing to bet almost none of his makes came from any set plays (I remember 2 times). Can't wait to see how deadly he can become when they actually call his number regularly.
How Stevens has actually cut his playing time down again from a week ago is way way past beyond belief.

Because Fournier is back playing 36 mins?
It really doesn't take much to test your belief, doesn't it.

You also had Edwards with 13 minutes and Semi with his 2 last night, of course.

Not sure why those two are playing ahead of Nesmith. I guess maybe not Semi anymore but holy crap. Brad really doesn't like playing "freshmen" does he? Edwards and Semi need to be glued to the bench in Maine not Boston. Ham and Eggers.

And Grant Williams when he is not playing "center" alongside TT. Or even when playing Grant instead of TT. whatever. His production-energy -defense is way too good and needed to play less than 20 per game. You can even cut some of Smart's minutes. Too many ways to get a good player on the court.

He made a really dumb foul last night, fouling Butler on a 3. Fouling anyone in the act of shooting a 3 is dumb - it's even dumber to foul a 21% 3 point shooter while shooting a 3. Rookie mistake, but I'm assuming that's why Nesmith saw less mins the rest of the game.
Still, I think the positives (the energy, hustle, shooting and for the most part solid D) is enough that you have to just live with some of those rookie mistakes. Let him make mistakes, let him develop instead of pulling him out as soon as he messes up..
With that being said, perhaps Stevens had it set in his mind even before tip-off that he was going to play Nesmith less. Kemba went out of the game very early on - it should have been either Nesmith or Pritchard going in (preferably Nesmith because of how bad Miami killed us with their outside shooting in the previous game and Pritchard is not as good defensively at rotating quickly and getting out on shooters)...but instead, he puts in Edwards, like wtf?
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

I can't think of a single player, veterans included that hasn't fouled a 3 point shooter. Plus Nesmith getting less time because of it should never ever lead to some of the rotations seen here this entire season including good ole Edwards last night.

Yep, we see plenty of really dumb play from the C's who have been playing and starting out there the longest. At least Nesmith's lapse was one of commission rather than omission (trying too hard--and on D!--rather than not hard enough).

He's up to 39,4 % on threes who would have thought that early on

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
Am I the only one who thinks Nesmith can be M Smart-lite on defense + making "winning plays" in the future?
Offensively speaking they are different, but the "relentless energy" (copyrighted) plus seemingly much better defense than anticipated with willingness to sacrifice the body reminds me of a younger Smart.
Thoughts?

Smart had the instincts from day 1 on where to be on D and how to orchestrate the rest of the players on the court even. I don't see Aaron getting there. But energy-wise, he has a shot. Maybe Jaylen-like with hopefully better team D awareness as a ceiling? But, honestly, if he's successful enough offensively like Jaylen, he'll need to not kill himself on D when he's playing 30+ mpg.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
Nesmith took some bad angles around screens at times but otherwise he was great on defense. His length can be a problem on that end. The hustle is a given. It was nice to see a few jumpers fall.
Lost in all the bricked threes this season, is that he looks far more comfortable driving than he did his rookie year. 13/25 on jump shots inside the arc last year. 10/22 this year. Small sample size but he's also pretty efficient from mid range. If he can get a consistent outside shot, he'll be a very nice player.
Congrats on the career high in points. Hopefully there will be many more career nights in green in the future.

his misses he isnt squared before catching the ball. He gets that sorted and he will be a LETHAL weapon off the bench.

He is an enigma. His length, athleticism and hustle makes him a perfect fit for this team if he can be a shooting threat much the way Danny Green was once a great fit for Spurs. Great shooters like Green or Ray Allen are cold killers who are poised and ready to strike with even just a sliver of an opening. Nesmith’s out of control frenetic energy seems to be at odds with his meal ticket in NBA as a pure shooter.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Only 5 of his points were in the first quarter, but he looked the same making them that he did in the fourth.. modestly stunning game from him. That's his upside, the guy they hoped they were drafting, and one who might've gone in the lottery if he hadn't gotten hurt. As good as JRich, and the potential to be more than a 3&D guy - some of what Smart and White have for mixing it up and making more disruptive, lower-probability defensive plays, and upside as a scorer. It's HUGE for the future of the team if his game comes online.
