This sucks. It's the worst case scenerio. There is very few players that were the same after an Achilles. That's just facts. He will have to be one of the exceptions.

No reason to be upset for more than 30 minutes, it's not worth it. Tatum makes over $50 million in a year. He loves what he does. He has a good family, good teammates and friends. He has great support and any thing he needs at a moment's notice. From access to private jets, personal trainers, chefs, luxury houses and cars. His surgery is over and he is already on his way to recovery.

Tatum gets to take some well deserved time off and allow his body and mind to rest and heal. Then he will get to rehabbing when it's time.

As far as us fans, I've learned sports is there to be enjoyed and not taken too seriously. There are more important things in life. The players are way better off than fans.

*Sharing here what I posted on social media.

Better than ever. ☘️

A ruptured Achilles tendon is often referred to as the “kiss of death” in sports as athletes who sustain this injury almost never fully recover.
Worse than potentially not winning the championship this year is your 27 year old Franchise Player who is just entering his prime sustaining a supposedly career altering injury. The 2-3 year championship window of the Celtics is seemingly gone, just like that.
However, with backs against the wall, Celtics Nation would not want anyone leading us other than our Franchise Player.
Big Deuce.

Backs against the wall, you have given us hope time and time again:
2022 playoffs, down 2-3 against the Bucks, you dropped 46 points, 9rebs, 4 assists.
2023 playoffs, game 7 against the Sixers, you dropped 51 points, 13 rebs., and 5 assists.
Just yesterday, in a must win against the Knicks, you dropped 42 points, 8 rebs., and 4 assists.
You always delivered when we needed most. If anyone, and I mean, anyone could comeback better than ever after tearing his Achilles tendon, it would be you.

Take as much time as you need. Rest, recover, and grieve if you must. We will be waiting with the loudest and biggest ovation when you return, even bigger and louder than when we won #18.

We know you will be back better than ever. We will be back better than ever. ☘️

He's out for the entire 25-26 season. That's just my gut and you don't want to **** around with a injured achilles. Expecting him to be back next season is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Yes, ESPN says JT will be out for 2025-26.

JT will miss 2 NBA Finals.

Yes i should believe Espn notoriously Anti-Celtics tv.Along with Tnt.All about good ole La and Steph.
35 Year old Kobe was out for 9 months. And some genetic freaks came back after 6 months. But i guess 27 year old Tatum has glass Legs and he will recover longer then Kobe.Aha.Good one.All that media is saying is this season is over.Even though first sign of recovery is tendon healing. And if it heals by November so he could walk normal. Then im good that he will be ok by the end of this year.So,please.Tatum is coming sooner then later

"He's also second only to LeBron James in total playoff points scored through the age of 27, per ESPN Research.'

Big loss, but I expect him back. He's not dead or finished.

Well, we will see. The season ahead will consist of some big decisions... Wonder which way Brad and the new owner will go.
Good assessment:

literally zero reason for him to play next year. at best he'll come back for the last month, but what's the point? our team is going to be different, it's not going to have the championship core anymore, and anyways do we even have a championship core anymore?

it's time for the franchise to take a step back this year and assemble the best possible team around Tatum's prime starting in 2026-27. trade away "ceiling" guys with value like hauser and pritchard for guys who can actually contribute at playoff intensity. jrue still has value to the right team. explore options for JB, try to get equivalent talent back but maybe a better fit. KP we may be stuck with for now but he is only signed another year. meanwhile see who among our young guys are actually capable nba players. pick up a solid draft pick next year. it's going to be tough but in brad we trust.

I’m not a LeBron fan but I respect his career. JT’s injury shows how much of a genetic and health freak LeBron is.

22 years averaging 71 games and 37mpg a season. Absolutely remarkable, amazing and mind blowing. Most likely will never be seen again.

This article on Kevin Durant's recovery is pretty interesting: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40016845/you-fake-fire-fueled-kevin-durant-incredible-return-game

Tatum should call the exact same physiotherapist

https://hoopshype.com/2025/05/13/celtics-encouraged-that-jayson-tatum-emerged-from-surgery-with-no-further-issues/

According to a league source, the injury was confirmed when Jayson Tatum underwent testing Tuesday morning and the decision was made to operate immediately because swift action following Achilles’ injuries tends to lead to more favorable outcomes. The source added that complications during these procedures are common, so the Celtics were encouraged when Tatum emerged from surgery with no further issues.

Puts a dent in the path to getting into Bird territory.
But Kobe came back from a ruptured Achilles.
Assuming that’s what this is, Jayson will too.

Kobe came back from the Achilles to shoot 37% and 35% in consecutive seasons. That wasn't the Kobe Bryant I remember. Not sure what you're talking about. If there's an example of someone coming back successfully after this injury, it isn't Kobe.

Look RIP to the Mamba, but he and *most* of his fans were never about FG%:)
Kobe is JT's idol and he came back from it. That's as far as that analysis goes.
Simple motivation. It'll take a lot of it to keep doing each step of rehab for the next many months.

One thing about KD when he came back from the Achilles dude could not stay healthy. I hope Tatum is different we shall see. I still wanna see him retire as a celtic.

The dude's already received a lifetime of blessings. Sucks to see the injury, but he can absorb it far better than many.

I hear you, but Fan Brain is not reasonable. I know he's got it made, but I still feel for him. I would love to only have an achilles injury and all the good things in the world to make it easier.

I don’t know though, I can see something on TV or real life, if somebody is hurt, it’s almost like I can feel it in the same area. It feels, for a moment, as if I need them to be okay to make my imagined pain lessen. I like Tatum, so it lingers. I also don’t like when good folk are hurt. (Don’t know him but he’s seems like a good dude) Too many bad people live life without a care in the world.

Curmudgeon wrote:Meh. There are worse injuries. My orthopod niece tells me it's a relatively simple operation-- takes less than an hour--and that a full recovery is normal. Tatum will be shooting baskets in the gym by next September and back to full activity by next January or February if he is conscientious about his rehab.

A knee injury where cartilage is torn or lost is much worse in the long term. Think Kawhi Leonard.
