I doubt it did.

Shams reporting that the Nets are traing Steve Blake for Quincy Miller... and then likely to release Miller

Give up a guy who could help their thin back court for a young player with potential, then waive him to save money

Nice to see the Nets still penny pinching. With Steve Blake and DWill gone, Ellington is the only guy on the roster who shot .360+ from three last year.

Edit - Looks like they had to dump someone to fully get under the tax if I read it correctly. So once they waive guys to get down to 15, they should be between 1-2M under the tax.

Also got to like SVG loading up on cheap vets like last year's Joel Anthony trade. That's his move.

Brooklyn center rotation has averaged 45 games per season over the past three years.

The more I look at the Nets roster, the more it seems like a top 5 pick is very possible. Johnson and Lopez are gonna have to be averaging 28 a game if they even want to sniff the playoffs. There's no way those two can carry RHJ, Shane Larkin, and Thaddeus Young.

Corey Jefferson also got waived. I think it breaks down something like this:

Jack/Larkin/Boatright
Johnson/Ellington/Karasev/Brown
RHJ/Bogdanovic
Young/Robinson/McCullough
Lopez/Bargnani

PGs are awful, worst or second worst rotation next to Philly. Almost no three point shooting, especially at the PF spot. Center rotation is thin and very injury prone. Really taking on Bargnani is a huge injury risk there.

They could make it work with some skill guys, kind of slow pace, two-point shot oriented game like last year. But there is a ton of downside there with injury risks, youth, age, lack of depth and no flexibility.

I imagine Bargnani plays PF next to Lopez and he is a dangerous 3 pt shooter.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

God the Nets are built to fail this year. None of their bigs like to rebound. Their PG rotation could be the worst in the NBA. Billy King and Prokhorov are the best things to happen to the Celtics since the KG trade.

My only prayer is that Ainge remains patient and doesn't get an itchy trigger finger. Having two (maybe even three of the Celtics regress) lottery picks is a HUGE plus on the trade front come next June.

Good point on the rebounding scenario. They were a bottom third rebounding team last year, and the top four rotation guys in defensive rebounding percentage are gone, in KG, Anderson, Teletovic, and Jefferson. Robinson helps but I think they'd have to play him with Bargnani instead of Lopez, and a TRob/Bargnani front court is real bad.

I don't understand the people who are saying, "What are the Nets doing?". At some point they had to accept that the KG/PP deal was really bad. In theory, not having their picks should be incentive to not dismantle the team, but a worse strategy would be to keep a non-playoff team together and continue paying millions in luxury tax.

If the Nets had their picks, people would be saying, "Finally, the Nets are doing what they should have done two years ago". It actually appears the Nets are doing what they should have done years ago, cut their losses, and starting realistically looking to the future.

From a business standpoint, I like what the Nets are doing. From a basketball standpoint, I feel that they're actually laying some initial foundation for an inevitable rebuild. Because they have no picks, that rebuild has to be through free agency and trade.

Obviously great for the Celtics. Will always look bad for the Nets, but maybe they can quicken up a rebuild now by focusing on cutting dead weight salary. Still can't see Johnson staying there very long.

 That has to be a joke. I hope they play that lineup all year, that is an ATROCIOUS defensive front court.

He did shoot 36% from 3 last year (15-41 for the season), however the previous 4 years were 28, 31,30, and 35. He's not played even close to a full season since 10-11 (66 games). Personally I think this signing makes them worse which is better for us.

The Nets just have to basically start again, the fact their 1st rounder is dealt shouldn't change what they need to do - clean house and build.

Injuries are going to be vital for them, they are thin and Deron will be a short term loss.

Ainge has to lock this pick up - we either use it or it is the corner stone of a corner stone deal - nothing less.

Yeah, this. Bargnani and Jack might be the two worst rotation players in the league next year.

Bargs' games played and 3 point % since 2012. He's done and wasn't good to start with.

Code: Select all

Season        G  3P%
2011-12      31 .296
2012-13      35 .309
2013-14      42 .278
2014-15      29 .366
Career      504 .356

Honestly Bargs and Lopez are a perfect fit. Injury history, lots of concerns about motivation and toughness, both performed above baseline for a contract year.

thats a half decent team there. good enough to stay out of the bottom 10 anyway...as long as everyone stays healthy.

Yeah that should be a team fighting for the last couple playoff spots in the West. I can't see them finishing ahead of GS, SAS, Memphis, LAC, Houston or OKC but they could be right there fighting with NO and a surprise team or two (Utah and Phoenix maybe) for the playoffs. Provided, that is, Dirk/Parsons/Matthews can stay healthy (as you said).
