Yep Monroe is gone. I agree. I really hope we bring Baynes back.

Read somewhere that the Celtics are set to re-sign him. Good news if true.

If Smart takes the QO, resigning Baynes to competitive money while staying under the tax is trivial.
If Smart bolts for a big payday, same.
If we're not especially worried about ducking the tax to start the season, then there's obviously no problem in the first place.

The only way there was ever going to be some math that had to be done was in the case where we both sign Smart to something bigger, and want to maintain maximum flexibility re: the tax line. And even then we ought to be able to carve out a good 5mil for year one, which might be competitive anyway.

Him genuinely wanting to be here makes all scenarios that much more favorable.

So yeah, feels like the large majority of timelines wind up with him back.

A. Sherrod Blakely reported it. Good enough for me.

Came here to post this. Between Baynes and Williams the Celtics have the center position locked up for a few years. Need to start looking for the next Al Horford now

Yes. True. We need a 4-5.
Although, Tatum projects as a 3-4.

It may be that Tatum plays the 4, and Williams the 5.

A. Sherrod is the source though.

Hope it's true, Baynes is really valuable as a defender against big-time centers (see: Embiid, Joel).

Baynes is our 2nd most important player, not because he can score, but because he's our best post defender.
