Its because they refuse to adjust. If they went opposite of their approach every once in a while they would be more unpredictable.
Yeah that's totally why batters struggle on pitches away, not the fact that you have less than a second to recognize the pitch and decide what to do with it. Or the fact that when you cant barrel a ball up you're going to make weaker contact. Batters focus middle in, because those are the pitches you can make the hardest contact on.
Ted Williams is likely the best hitter ever, and he only got hits 34% of the time. The problem here isn't batters refusing to adjust, it's you failing to understand just how hard it is to hit major league pitching.
Wrong. Its not about getting a hit. It’s about making the proper swing decision. The catcher sets up outside to Betts. Every. Single. Time. Yet he pulls every swing. This has been going on for a while.
Do you remember Bogie last year and year before? They made it a point for him to go with the pitch and it worked wonders.
So yeah I know how hard it is to get a hit (they have fielders). To hit the baseball however shouldn't be as difficult, especially if you know its outside every time.
Yes last and the year before Xander went with the pitches, this year he looks for the ball middle in and drive the ball. And his OPS is almost 100 points higher than those two years averaged out, and his hard hit percentage is BY FAR a career high.
Yes they set up outside to Betts yet he is his OPS is the highest in baseball, so whatever he is doing is clearly working.
