Thats what I dont understand. Reading posters that talk about doing a rebuild of the rockets, everything is available except harden. harden is the only asset they have of significant value (players like Roco are assets, but not in a big way). If they rebuild 'around' Harden, all they can do is shuffle players around, they cannot upgrade. And he is too old to rebuild via the draft. Effectively the rockets options are blow it up or run it back.
Houston painted themselves into a corner and they are in trouble. The only solution is a complete rebuild. They are going nowhere. Is Harden going to wait 3-4 years?
Harden is such a floor-raiser that they win 40+ games with him and 4 G-Leaguers on the court, but that's probably not the best plan. I think they could have done something to cobble together another run, but with Morey gone, D'Antoni gone, and a cheap owner who probably isn't interested in paying excessive luxury tax, I wouldn't be very excited to be a Rockets fan right now. I wouldn't expect them to bring back all their UFA. Harden is gonna have to play 40 minutes a game.
It's easy to say trade Westbrook, but he's a negative asset so I don't think that even helps unless some dumbass team thinks that he's worth trading for (Sixers?). I don't even know what a rebuild would look like besides just trading Harden. They have no real other assets to sell off besides Covington. Eric Gordon is bad and always injured, Danuel House just got kicked out of the bubble and risked his entire team just to get laid, so I don't know what his trade value is, but probably not that high. Rough stuff. Rockets have been a competitive team for like 40 years, but dark times ahead.
