Of all the great players and people that have been a part of this great organization, Bill Russell is the one guy who makes me the most proud to be a fan of the Boston Celtics. Pure class on and off the court. He will long be remembered.

Such a sad day. I always thought he would live forever, or at least as long as the Celtics franchise is still standing. RIP to a legend, arguably the greatest defender and teammate the league has ever seen.

His last video on Twitter was him saying that the Celtics will be back with a vengeance next season. I sure hope our boys take Mr. Russell's last words to heart. It was a shame they couldn't win one last title for him before he passed away, but at least he got to cheer for a Celtic team he could be proud of.

Russell showed the country how it could and should be done on and off the court. Proud, loyal, courageous, and genuine.

He's up there in heaven reuniting with close friends Red, KC, Sam, Hondo, Tommy and Wilt.

Man, imagine being able to sit around talking basketball with those 7 guys?

I hope he flipped someone off before he past. If there is anyone who suffered racism but came out stronger and respected across the entire country it was my guy Russell the goat! Rip

I think one of the greatest compliments you can give someone is to say that the world would be a better place if there was more people like them. The world would be a better place with more Bill Russells in it. Sucks to lose one. RIP you earned it.

NBATV is showing at least 2 Russ games today. Game 6 of the 63 Finals is on right now and game 7 of the 69 Finals is on later tonight.

He had a long and amazing life.

The word legend gets thrown out a out, but this is one instance were the word legend seems like we are underestimating him.

Russell was one of the greatest winners of all time in sports history, if not the greatest of all. Seemed like a great person too.

I would love to be able to go back in time and watch him play.

The thing about Russell is that no player before or since was better at making his teammates better. He made the game easier for them: got them good shots, erased their defensive mistakes and always filled a lane-- opposing big men almost never beat him up the floor. Just an amazing basketball savant.

Just came by to pay my respects to one of the greatest players in NBA history. But he was way more than that as I’m sure you all know. He’s on my Mt. Rushmore of basketball players.

Different from the usual angle, but winding up in the same place. Short. Well-written by Michael Holley.
