LOL, a week after Stevens declares he's free to spend we see a straight salary dump for a couple of second rounders.

Any chance their fates are tied together? Not Jaylen to Portland, but a holdup because we’re looking to use Brogdon to facilitate the Dame trade, and get Herro?

Eh, I doubt it. Reports are saying how the Celtics have put themselves into a bind by taking on Porzingis' salary, when we have pending supermax extensions for both JB and next year, Tatum. I doubt we tie all that $ up into 3 guys, and then add ANOTHER guy who's making $30 mil or more.

From the reports I've seen, if we deal Brogdon, it's likely to cut costs, get under the 2nd apron and replace Brogdon with a quality player who makes less $ than him - not more.

Sure, Herro is younger and better than Brogdon. But is it really worth it to go from one guard who can shoot but has injury issues and defense issues to another guard who can shoot but has injury issues and defense issues who costs $8 mil a year more?

Celts have Zarren. One of the best in the league at cap wizardry. If Brad says they have the green light from ownership to spend and go after a ring this year, I believe him. I have a feeling that more is coming. I think they will move Brogdon as part of a larger package to bring back a player that gives the team a higher upside. And until JB is signed, I cannot rule out a blockbuster JB deal either.
All I know is a finals appearance followed by a ECF game 7.....There's NO WAY this team is taking a step back in order to take two forward next off-season. They are going for it.

Never mind, thought Herro was making 20 million.

If Porzingis repeats what he did last season, in a winning environment, he's immediately our second-best player, 1B to Tatum's 1A. He's a wild card, but the talent is there.

That means we're paying Jaylen super-max money to be our third best player.

Just gotta keep his minutes down and give him rest games, which is where having some bench depth would be nice - we have great bigs but all are ancient (Al) or injury prone (Rob, Zinger) - diluting their usage and minutes in regular season will be crucial

I want Oubre, Barton, Ross, and Wood to join the Heat once Dame gets traded there.

You've got the Curry-Durant-Thompson model big 3 where they figured out a way to feed 3 20 point scorers. Jaylen's going to have to adjust offensively and being the guy who is tasked with defending the Jimmy Butlers is going to need to be his priority with the starters. That's where he can maintain his #2 status on a championship level team here.

Just keep Porzingas at the free throw line and have him pass the ball to JB or JT---if no shot appears, KP shoots a FT--which he is like 90%....he can soot over anyone.

Yes John let’s do the same thing we do every time we have a TPE, wait & see only to let it expire.
How about using it now to find a need & integrating that player with the team before the season starts instead ?

That was pre-Supermax and iirc pre-max for Dray and Klay. They also went that high in salary to level up a team that had already won rings. And all of Durant/Curry/Klay are better than Jaylen.

Return to Boston Celtics
