Fat and lazy is fat and lazy in any era.

Otherwise, you're correct.

Ditto Waltah.

Ditto Raef.

Ditto non-Celtics like Mehmet Okur.

He's a career 63% free throw shooter, outside shooting was never his thing or should've never been his thing.

All really nice guys, so maybe there is something to the jolly fat man stereotype, even by NBA standards?

I'm coming to terms with the fact that we're probably breaking up this core next summer.

I think, strategically, the Celtics have decided 1) all these extensions are useful because they're all good value against a rising cap for any team not into the repeater tax and 2) there will be major markets for their players next summer.

So they can offload Jrue or KP or DW a year from now and get cheaper players and assets back, including guys who can play in a championship rotation right away.

They'd be idiots to do that--and they're not idiots. (Unless KP is permanently broken and they can somehow use his winding-down contract.)

No, I think it's the most likely outcome. Hard to imagine them paying 250M or whatever in tax for one year.

It's a bargain for the appreciation they'd get in both assets and ego. Other serious competitors will likely be paying it at some level as well.

Probably a good thing that KP was injured during the first year of his contract. More reason to not talk about any extensions going forward.

Queta will introduce Lob City this year, KP will come back to help repeat in June and Stevens will move him at the deadline in 26'.

Most years with only one team (active players):
• 15 - Steph Curry
• 12 - Draymond Green
• 11 - Giannis Antetokounmpo
• 9 - Jokic, Towns, Turner, Booker, Looney
• 8 - Embiid, BROWN
• 7 - Murray, TATUM, Fox, Adebayo, Kleber

Klay made it to 11 seasons before moving to Dallas. Same with Beal (to PHX) and Dame (to MIL).

Does it matter if they started with the team? Middleton has to have over 10 years with the Bucks.

Interesting list because there's more players with rings on it then not.

Yeah, should've clarified. On only ONE team. Or team that drafted them.

I watched his whole career with us and one problem is that Antoine shot the ball like a middle schooler who never really learned a standard jump shot.

Another problem was that he was given the keys to the kingdom from a very young age and once he started chucking — and stopped crashing the glass or working on his game or his body — no one could get through to him. He seemed to “age” super young — lost most of his lift, and quickness and agility — became a stationary shooter with poor form and percentages.

Him going broke isn’t funny but it’s in line with his character. Seems like a nice guy and I’m glad he went on to win a title in a supporting role and I think/hope he’s kind of stabilized in post-career adulthood. Seems kind of telling though that he hasn’t been “around” the Celtics at all — feels like maybe they keep him at a distance or at least don’t welcome him in, maybe there’s some hurt feelings between him and ownership?

I really can't decide. Yes, I know that a highlight video only focuses on the positive aspects of their games, but there is a lot of good stuff on display, and I feel confident that both are NBA roster ready. The draft is always a crap shoot, especially when one is drafting outside of the lottery, but I think Brad and his team just aced this draft. Looking forward to seeing both players in a Celtics uniform.

Well realistically speaking only one will get his chance next year. And I am hoping a BIG Chance. Watson reminds me of a Swiss army knife in that he is useful to have around and can be plugged in for quite a few things.

Blame me if this is a jinx post, but I feel like Baylor is going to “hit” and be a possible rotation player on a good team. Watson is the one I’m more excited about — there’s a lot on film and a lot of good things said about him to get me excited about. Why Watson?

1. I always favor bigs
2. Love well-rounded two-way players
3. If you’re not quite “two-way” but favor defense I am still in love
4. Hitting on 54 is even more exciting than hitting on 30
5. I doubt the Celtics have ever had an Anton before. Of course, the same is probably true of Baylor. I guess the internet could tell me for sure. Have we had a Watson?

Antoine aged quick because of a poor diet and gambling habits that have him black listed at every casino in America. I'll say this, Jim O'Brien was a good coach for the Celtics but he was the worst coach possible for Antoine. If he had just kept his game as playing around the rim he would have been remembered more favorably than he was.

I don't believe the NBA has had an Anton before.

Toine was just a very untalented scorer inside and out when you look at him in retrospect through his numbers. I recall Toine being an unstoppable force down-low when he felt like attacking the rim but his numbers show that he was a career .542 shooter from 0-3 feet. His rookie season he took a whopping 62.1% of his shots at the rim and shot just 43% on them (which is a cautionary tale for those who want Tatum and Jaylen to force inside shots).
Because of terrible spacing, rim % leaguewide was likely much lower than it is today but at a quick glance .542 doesn't look to have been a very good figure even for back then, and also the Celtics were a 3pt shooting team.

Read on Twitter

1st in playoff wins and all wins in 2020s.
1st in titles in 2020s.

So far, we own the decade even with the crappy 2020-21 season.

I generally think great players from past eras would thrive in today's game. But Toine is definitely not that. He was allowed to do whatever he wanted but he might be a role-player today. Unless they completely rebuilt his game from an early age, he's the kind of guy the other team would be happy to let shoot today.
