The Celtics traded the #32 pick to the Orlando Magic for the #46 and #57 picks, plus a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick. The Celtics used the #46 pick to draft Amari Williams and the #57 pick to select Max Shulga.

We did get 4 seconds for #32. But we basically already spent them.
We took two players: Shulga & Amari
We traded two seconds to UTA to take Geoges Niang

so it's not as if there are others assets coming

Charles Bassey is still bouncing around out there.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Bassey
On September 10, Bassey signed with the Atlanta Hawks. He was waived prior to the start of the regular season on October 18.[40]

Memphis Grizzlies (2025-present)
On October 26, 2025, the Memphis Grizzlies signed Bassey to a 10-day hardship contract.

I suspect it was new ownership and the apron/luxury tax cba laws that were more responsible for the big man dearth we currently have tban Brad tbh.

I think we might have to face the facts we might be worse than we all thought this season.

How this team moves forward will depend on what Brad and the owners decide.

Those who were thinking Tatum is not a franchise player, look at the team now.
Not only do the Cs miss his ability to run the team, his rebounding is also sorely missed.

The Cs have the personnel to be competitive.
But Joe is going with seniority, like PP and Sam over the young, bigger, and more athletic players like Mynot, Boucher, and Hugo.
So as long as Joe is going with a soft lineup, with Sam and PP, the Cs will lose a lot of games.

Simons is not being used properly because Joe has him behind PP on the depth chart.
It's time for Brad to trade Simons for a player with a lower salary.
We can see Simons can score, even with limited playing time and shot attempts.
He just doesn't fit in because of how Joe runs the team.

What now, Brad?

JT's just one of 4 players averaging 8-10+ boards/36 that the C's lost from last season. They also lost 3 of their top 6 players who had higher 3-point averages than JT. And Brad spent months trying to make that AS trade.

Well, he didn't waste anything. 4 Picks for 1? That's a good deal.
Especially not knowing what any of the Picks are going to turn out to be. I.e: There are many Lottery busts.

We can still sign a Big, and we also need a PG. We've still got a few TPE's.
IDK why Brad is taking so long.

Me, I would have Waived Walsh and brought Bassey on.

THis is the roster he's going with until the trade deadline.

It's not perfect but it doesn't really matter - it's a bridge year. If we lose games, we get a better draft pick.

And most TPE's go unused. TPE's also mean adding salary, which is something Brad is clearly not going to be doing this season. The mission for this season is clear - trim payroll, save $, regain flexibility..

Maybe we'll part (or all) of the $22mil Porzingis TPE next summer. That's when Brad will be back to making win-now moves to get back to title contention..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Maybe if Cs are winning games and Simons is struggling then I think that's considered "takes time".
But right now it's starting to look like the losses will be piling up.

It's not even how good the other team is.
If the other team is bigger, it's looking like an automatic loss for the Cs.

We'll see how Brad plays this out.

You're talking like GMs make lots of moves in October. They don't. They work all summer to set up the team, and Brad set up the team to
unquestionably #1: get under the second apron/save ownership $$
very likely #2: soft/stealth tank by having a historically weak frontcourt

Starting in December, there will be breathless anticipation of 'will they make a move before the trade deadline in February??' It's a virtual guarantee that nothing of consequence will happen until then.

Brad has set up the team to compete for a high lottery pick. I'm sure he's not stunned that they have lost to 2 playoff locks and a 3rd playoff hopeful. He's chilling. I mean, scouting draft prospects and checking with Joe etc. to make sure morale is okay, but chilling. In the meantime, Joe will work his tail off to get as much out of his new $27M undersized SG as he can -- but does it matter much? I don't think we should let it keep us up at night.

I don't believe they are competing for a high lottery pick.

A move in November is not uncommon.
Maybe December or January will be more realistic.

So we'll see.

On gap at center - that makes no economic sense. We can only get players that are going to be here in 2026, or are trade bait.

Simons is the guy we have to move. I don’t see a role for him. Quetta, Boiucher, Garza, Tillman is a weird rotation. Queta the only one who might be worth something.

Random, but Joe benching Tillman with tons of family in attendance seems cruel. I know, minutes are earned, but we suck and if Baylor can get a few minutes of burn, surely Tillman can get a few minutes somewhere.

Also seeing what all the criticism has been throughout his career on Simons. He's a microwave scorer but does very little else. Thought he would be a better playmaker but the guy has 5 assists total in 3 games in big minutes. Doubt he has much trade value aside from being an expiring - we're going have to package value to get a better player in that contract slot.

I don’t understand why people thought Simons would be this amazing player for us.

He was simply all that was out there considering the Holidag contract.

He’s a stock standard bad team, high volume scorer type player. Really hard to see him become anything else.

I feel like if we were truly trying to tank, we would have sold high on some of this roster to ensure we actually get a worthwhile lottery pick instead of getting stuck with a middling pick. Sure, we've looked awful through three games but this roster isn't bad enough to out-tank the bottom feeders of the league.

I mean I just don’t understand the overconfidence from so many on here in the first place with the state of the front court.

Queta is not a good player. Nor are the other bigs.

We saw prior to Horford’s return to Boston the struggles of not having a decent big man out there

You combine that with Tatum missing and it is a massive loss of quality.

Exactly!

If this was a tanking year, Brad would've traded DWhite for a lottery pick, like what that report about Toronto offering the 9th pick for DWhite.

This roster can compete if they can get rebounds.

Or we could just do a Philly last season and gradually shut down players who are banged up.

I’ll be shocked if Brad makes trades aimed at making us good enough to get smoked by a contender in the playoffs.

That’s just dumb. We don’t compete again without adding more genuine talent.

Yeah. We're far from a Tanking Team.
But, in the same token, we're far from a Contending Team, as well.

Time to kick it in gear.
I can't figure why we kept Walsh, but didn't sign Bassey?

We also need another PG.
Unless Simons is going to learn it on the fly?

Simons was never a PG.

I believe the best thing to do is start Hugo at SG and bring PP back to 6th man role.
Or start Hugo and Boucher or Mynot.
That way rebounding will not be a big problem.

There's really no shortcut.
If you want to rebound, use bigger players.

Having 3 small players with JB and Queta will lead to the Cs losing the rebounding battle.
Just like what happened in this game.

Whether we like it or not, size matters in basketball.
