They could or should have probably just gotten Deng for Gasol at worst straight up. I don't know if that's necessarily true, but it doesn't seem like they were trying too hard to get him through trade to go after him over the summer.

Reports say Deng was never offered. I think that is the #1 target for the Grizz this off-season.

Chicago fans are fools if they are bugging about this. They trade anything for Gasol and they are stuck in the same position Memphis was in. Paying a ton of money to a guy who can't carry your squad. Would the addition of Gasol really make them that much better? No. They'd still be a middling Eastern Conference squad due to get smacked in the first or second round.

Gant wrote:Don't get wrong, this is a terrific trade for the Lakers. Just getting rid of Kwame makes them better. But...

1) The Lakers were pretty soft before. They still are.

2) The Lakers are not faster.

3) The Lakers are not better defensively. They are probably a little worse.

4) The Lakers are not better on the boards.

5) The Lakers are at least as brittle as before the trade. They've got one key guy out, and they have a few more players who have a hard time staying healthy including Gasol.

The Lakers are now much better in a half court offense. This will help. It may make them the favorite to reach the finals, but don't be surprised if Dallas outplays them, San Antonio shuts them down, or Phoenix runs them off the court.

Bottom line: Should it come down to it, the Celtics still match up very well against them.
Perkins took Bynum right out of the game both times this year.
Garnett is all over Gasol.
Pierce over Odom any day of the week.
Ray Allen does as well against Kobe as anyone.
Rondo just keeps getting better.

Also, the Celtics bench matches up very well.

I agree with your exception of #5. Kobe will torch Ray Allen any day of the week

if the lakers and celtics make the finals...this would probably be one of the biggest finals series in a long time...it would also bring in a lot of Ratings.

the trade is very good for the lakers and the nba

You CAN'T in all seriousness count Kwame Brown as a player can you??? He is a contract. The player is crterion (sp) and the picks.

Memphis just got anally intruded.

I like Critt from what I know of him, but have never scouted him.

Anyways, this gives them Gay/Critt/Conley for the future, 12-15 mil in caproom next season (unless Stromile Swift declines his option, then they have 18-21 mil), and extra first round picks. Miller/Milicic/Cardinal all come off the books after 09/10 and buy then a young core should be developed well enough. They could have done worse.

oh, its definitely good for the lakers, i just dont think it makes them GREAT. like i first said, theyre now in the Dallas/Phoenix camp. maybe if they swing a Odom/Kidd trade ill put them in the San Antonio group.

Personally, I think San Antonio and Dallas are in a group of their own, still. I expect Dallas to be looking real good end of season.

I think the Lakers are now in the same camp as the Suns and Hornets, a close step down. Contenders, just not favorites.

Yeah I saw that a few minutes ago. Their salaries match both length and size so it doesn't really affect either team.

Obviously Memphis is going to be unloading players with big contracts since the owners are looking to sell the team. Even though the owners denied ever wanting to sell them, he did mention if the right price comes along that he will sell the team. I would guess that Miller and Cardinal is next. I doubt he will unload Millcic. They now have 3 young point guards in Conley, Lowry and Crittenton.

I don't agree. The Lakers big three are better than Dallas' big three and the suns have always had trouble with the Lakers and have internal problems. ALso Dallas lacks a finisher. They were killed in the finals by the heat and last year went out in the first round. To me Dallas is a pretender.

I see it as ,

1. Spurs
2.Lakers
3.Suns
4.Mavs

The only 4 teams with a chance to win the title are
1. Celtcis
2. Pistons
3.Spurs
4.LAkers

still? Dallas needs to win SOMETHING before they should be in the same sentence as SA, just my opinion though.

why are people talking about the Lakers in the finals? Between New Orleans, SA, Dallas, GS, Denver, Portland etc. the west is stacked, adding a soft center to a team doesnt make them any better than these teams.
I despise fans that cheer on a team from up north or one that resembles a dinosaur. oh wait...

In LA he will be a power forward, his best position. Bynum plays centre, Odem small forward. Who in the west has a better front line???????

plus there is a guy named KOBE still the best player on the planet.

Looks like Chris Wallace hasn't lost his skills as an idiot and terrible GM. Good god. 2 first round picks that are going to be in the 20s? What a dub.
